If you are anything like me, you watch the local news in you city, but you also keep up with what is going on in the rest of the world. According to the goverment controlled news, all we hear is bad news. The economy is getting worst, stock market is plummeting, health care is dying and the national deficit is beyond out of control and still growing. So tell me, what do you think about where we are in this country?

It is interesting to watch another nations news. I have found that things are happening around the world that I never see on our local or national news but have seen about my own nation on the BBC and out of Ireland. Some times it is good other not. It is sad to say but I do believe we are in a world wide recession so that in some aspects the news is the same everywhere. Our governments have been borrowing and trading our monies to each other for generations and it has caught up to them. We now suffer their bad habits.

What gets me is seeing really good things about our own country that we never learn from our own media! Why, why would they not show us these things?

I agree. I think our media spends too much time on the negative things that are going on in the world and not enough time on the positive. I watch a lot of programs on other areas of the world and I search the internet for positive things that are going on in the world and it's wonderfully encouraging to see that people are still caring for each other.

to be honest its the same as most other countries who have been in recession I am from uk and to be honest am more concerned about whet is happenning here than in the states.
Although many people believe that the housing problems in the states actually caused to global down turn but who knows am not a financial expert.
Though one think I do think after speaking to a few of my american friends is that obama isn't the saviour that everybody thought he was.
But again am only from the outside looking in so to speak.
Hope it picks up and happy mylotting and happy xmas.

Hello, my friend and thanks for your comments. I wish I was in the uk right now. It's december and the weather is a crappy 50 degrees. It should a snow covered 10. At any rate, anyone who put enough faith in a man to think Obama was going to make some kind of miraculous changes deserves to be disapointed. However, I do hope a coloborative effort on behave of the American people gets us afloat again. Thanks for the greetings. All the best to you and yours.

Well first of all, the government does not control the media. And if it did, why would they say all this bad stuff, or weren't you insinuating something?
Secondly, I see lots of good stuff on the news too. But the thing about news is that it thrives on sensationalism. The dramatic and usually bad stuff sells more. Its more exciting and news is about ratings too.

I totally agree with you about the ratings and sensationalism and there is a lot of good stuff in the news it's just not as prevelent because it does not sell or rate as high as the negative...go figure. At any rate, I choose not to get into a debate about the news being government control, but I would encourage you to dig a little deeper, read between the lines and take a peak behine the scenes. Thanks for posting.

I'll admit our country has seen its good and bad times. And, just like any other place in the world it has its pros and cons. What place doesn't? Quite frankly, I know the news is suposed to be a medim of information, but ask yourself is it really, or is it just public complaining about events? If you ask me, I'd have to say "complaining" more or less.
Yes I know our country's in the can, what are you doing about it? Drilling it into my head? Enough already.

I think you really misunderstood my point and even if you didn't, that's no reason to be rude. next time you read something that makes you uncomfortable, I think it would be a good idea to ignore it and move on. I learned as a small child that if I didn't have something worth saying then don't say anything. As far as what I'm doing about it, in short, everything I can. How about you? Any suggestions.

Well I don't watch the news as frequently as the next person, but I view America as a nation with too many flaws in the system and full or corruption.

....and you didn't have to watch a news broadcast to know that. I on the other hand do watch the news and I listen to all sides of every point of view. And the saddest part of it all is the American people (and our taxes) are caught in the middle of a lot of selfish bickering while things are getting worst. I really hope the powers that be get a clue. Thanks for posting.
