Snuggies great idea or not?

The store I work at sells them as do many others. And I've heard a few people say they were buying it as a gag gift. My hubby wanted one and I had to ask him twice "are you serious?" he likes it alot. Though to me it's just an over sized backwards bath robe. What do you think if this item?

I have not seen one w/ a Star Trek print on it. I've only seen the origional plain ones or with sports teams. But I have seen kids ones w/ a diff name that have alot of cute print choices on them

my roomie got one and we found it doesn't fit a larger person and the fleece is rather a thin, low quality fleece (spoken like a true sewer!)

I've seen a pattern online & I know I could improve on what they have for sale by using better fleece & making it wider and to have ties. I have to say that robes open down the front - at least for us larger folks!

You are right it is a lil thin feeling. Though I haven't tried it on, haven't even thought about it to comment on the fit. I think the darn thing is just plain silly looking.

LOL that is so funny as I'm reading your discussion I was starting to think what I was going to respond and one of the first things I was thinking you said. From the time those things came out I said they are just robes put on backwards! lol. I can't believe people would pay for them. I loved when Jay Leno made fun of them on his show by introducing the smatress. He had people dressed up in mattresses. It was hilarious. I think the snuggies are pretty silly, and they even make them for pets now. But if your husband likes them, go for it. I think the Harriet Carter magazine has them in sports teams.

They do sell them w/ sports teams on them for nearly double the price! He got the boring blue one.

The one I got for my son has our College sports logo on it, and I got it at K-Mart for $14, usually like $20 so not real bad. I also saw that they had Bills, Giants, and Cowboys logos too... but they didn't have any Giants in stock when I got this one, otherwise I would have chosen that as it's my son's favorite team. He hates the Bills though!

they look really thin to me.. i suppose it'd be ok for an over robe, but they seem a big long.i wouldn't buy them for my mom,i'd be afraid she'd trip or catch those sleeves on something.

They really aren't ment for walking around in just sitting on the couch in. But you have a point most people wouldn't just get up, take it off, then go put it back on again after doing something.

Like you, I think they are silly. Have you seen the snuggies for dogs?! I bought my little dog a 4T sized shirt to keep her warm and she loves it. Also keeps her from licking her stitches which were taken out yesterday but she still wears the shirt. That person who thought of snuggies is probably laughing all the way to the bank!

That's what I was thinking of too was your post about the shirt from the toddler section in regard to the pet snuggie. I dunno seems some people with pets have alot of money to waste on them, personally taking them to the vet and feeding them ect is enough.

I heard what they are made of and have in them is pretty bad for you. Which is formaldehyde, it's really toxic and bad for you. So I wouldn't suggest them, but if your set on one then go ahead.

Hmmm... I had not heard of them being made of any toxic materials. I'm not set on one, my hubby is.

Um, they look like the clothes Darth Vader/Darth Maul/etc wear. Or possibly druid priest clothes.. Or, pardon the offensive reference, like Ku Klux Klan ceremonial clothing... But they sure look comfy. :D These things are not available in my country. The Philippines is a tropical archipelago, so there's almost no need of Snuggies. However, I like the concept. I especially agree with their marketing logic: whenever I "wear" my blanket, I do wish that there were armholes or something. I love that someone finally got to invent a solution to the age-old conundrum of having "trapped arms" whenever we wrap blankets around ourselves. :)

I thought they looked pretty dumb when they first came out. My 9 year old son says he wants one of them, but he has a few throw blankets he can snuggle up with if he gets cold while watching television.

I agree. We have tons of blankets around the house in all sizes, no need for a snuggie. Heaven knows my poor hubby is always freezing in winter, perhaps he should wear layers like most do *LOL*

LOL, we've been making Snuggie jokes for months now! A friend of mine was joking that he should get his nasty SIL a Snuggie just to be a jerk but I honestly think lots of people genuinely like them. We actually bought my MIL one for Christmas and even though it started out as a gag gift I really think she'll like it for snuggling up on the couch with a book or laptop. Personally I think I would just wear a bathrobe or wrap a blanket around my shoulders.

L.o.L. I have seen them. I really didn't know what they were so they are a big over sized robe? I thought it was a big dorky cover of some sort but I kinda wanted one. What do you think of them?

I think they are silly. But my hubby loves his, though he spends plenty of time on the couch to justify it. However, me the minute I sit down the kids need something so to me it is not very useful. Better to use a bathrobe or wear layers or blanket, or other similar items that one can move better with and not fall on ones face.

Okay, I may be a weirdo, but I really do want one. It stays fairly chilly in our house and a lot of the time I either run around the house wearing a sweater or I will take one of my smaller blankets and knot it and wear it like a cape. I almost got a Snuggie last week at a Dirty Santa that we had with my work. I love the idea of being able to be wrapped in a blanket and still to be able to use the computer or read at the same time.

Hi, First off great discussion topic, I honestly wish the Snuggies would fall of the face of the Earth, I'm so tired of hearing about them. It's bad enough that everywhere you go you see them, they use to be one of those items you could only buy on TV but now like everything else you can find the in just about every retail store. Here in California they sell them in Albertsons Supermarket, I find that so odd but hey whatever floats your boat. I'd rather wear a warm bath robe than something that looks paper thin, and now they even have them for your dog!! If I had a dog I would never buy my dog one, he or she would probably look at me and think "Are you kidding me?". I have a cat and if they came out with one for you cat, that's exactly the look my cat would give me and the same thought as well. Whoever thought of them is obviously rolling in the dough but I wouldn't ever spend my money on one or buy anyone in my family one, they seem like such a waste of money.

Lots of good marketing to get people to want or "need" them. However if you live in a colder state that truly has a WINTER people are always looking for the latest thing for them to feel warm & stay warm while in their house w/o jack'n up the heat & then cry when you get your heat bill. I don't see spending that kind of money on one for your pet. But ya know there are many people out there who are willing to spend big $ on things for their pets. As many people see pets as their children and their "children" need to stay warm too! Again good marketing!

I think its really liked item. but , if you don't like it. still, you accept gift. because, you understand his feelings for giving you. hence, enjoy the moment. & respect the gift.

It's a stupid idea, it's a freaking backwards robe, what kind of an idiot thinks of that, now if it was all around it would be much better

I dunno who thought of it but they are selling so one must think they are a hit And the inventor is rolling in the $$ til the idea wears out.

I got one for my son because he's been wanting one really bad since he first saw them advirtised. Personally I don't see myself or my husband using them. We both have bathrobes we wear if it's really cold, and at night when we're watching TV we'll grab a blanket or 2 to sit under. But my son doesn't have a robe and although he does use his blanket when we watch movies, he says he also wants to sleep with the snuggie because his bed is so cold when he crawls into it at night.

From the point of a consumer, I think they're a really dumb idea- if you're cold just use a blanket! You don't to go out and buy a "snuggie." w

In theory the concept is actually really good. The snuggie allows you to remain covered from top to bottom while still maintaining the dexterity of your arms. This means that you can stay warm but still read a book or do a puzzle, etc. However, in reality this is a ridiculus contraption. It looks beyond silly and I'm sure that the big floppy arms would get in the way of doing things. I would think that it would be easier to either turn up the furnance a little bit or just put on a warmer sweater. That's my two cents!
