Gurukul, a new way or the only way?

Gurukul is derived from a sanskrit word. Guru means "teacher" and kula means "extended family".It resembled an ashram, where shishyas or the students reside as equals irrespective of their social standing, and would learn from the Guru.Everything there, was designed to educate them in the right way. What really appeals to me is, that the students were kept far away from all the disturbing or diverting issues infact they were completely cut off from the society until they completed their education, which I think would make them more disciplined, more focussed and more better citizens.Though no one agrees to be seperated from their children for so long, but if you see the present system of education, degrees are attained, but no values or morals inculcated in them, which is so very essential, for the society itself. That's my opinion. What's yours?
