The meaning of many technical words in Islam has been hijacked by non-Muslims. some of them are 'Kaffir', 'Jihad', etc. 'Kaffir' is an Arabic word which means one who do 'kufr' that means 'one who denies'. In the Islamic context kaffir means, one who deny the truth of Islam, In English it is often used as 'Infidel', which was first used by Jews. But I don't agree with people calling one as a 'kaffir'. However we use it for identification. Islam is a way of life. not just something to be done only in the mosque. It has guidance in most aspects of life, eg. dealing with neighbors, guests,. How to talk, how to walk, how to eat, How to live a married life, how to pray, how to worship, etc. You might have seen many Muslims they may not have all these qualities, As you cannot evaluate a car because of a driver. Some bad drivers tend to damage very good cars as well. The basic idea of Islam is, To do what our creator want us to do. Human kind, universes, and all are created by a creator, we may call them as God, Muslim prefer to call him as Allah. God created humankind and he informed the way of living for a humankind. The instruction from God has been revealing to mankind through selected people(Prophets) from the beginning of mankind. Many prophets has received revelations from our Creator. There were several revelations from God in previous times for those people and for a particular region. The final edition of the revelation, the manual of guidance for human kind from the creator of human kind is revealed to the final prophet 'Prophet Mohammad'; That is 'Holy Quran' As a final revelation through the final prophet, which is meant for all people all over the world. Our Creator , The almighty God, Allah, he is ONE, self sufficient, neither born, nor gave birth, and none comparable unto him. Our life is not a permanent life, which is part of our journey to achieve a target. Life in this earth is temporary and it is a time to earn for our after life and to prepare our future journey. Here we may face different difficulties, richness, good, bad and many things but whoever used all of those in the way that our creator informed us will be in Success and they will be rewarded a Paradise, Others will fail in the never ending after life. The pillars of belief of Islam are to believe in God, His Angels, His Prophets, His Holy Scriptures, In the Last hour, In the Power of Almighty God over all things, Good, bad and every thing are from Allah alone. The pillars of Islam are Testimony of faith: "I testify that there is no god except Allah, and Prophet Mohammad is Allah's messenger', Five times obligatory prayers, Give Zakat-the obligatory charity (2.5% of annual earnings to poor and needy), Fasting in the month of Ramadan, Hajj-The pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in life for those who are feasibly by health and money. There are many things, I will try to write later on. There are a lot to mention, yet Islam is a simple religion for those who want to live righteously. "This is the record, there is no doubt, in this there are guidance for those who are righteous" (Quran : Al Baqara 2:2) "I Swear by the time, Verily! Man is in loss, except those who have faith and do righteous deeds and advice each other with truth advice each other with patience" (Quran : 103) Peace.

Islam too is a good religion. Only these extremists like Osama Bin Laden and his Taliban cronies have brought it a bad name. I have many Muslim clients and I can vouch for their friendliness.

my sister i grieve tht so many responded to ur quest but no one described true meaning of kafir in fact one who/which hides is called kafir literally kafir is one who hides the truth moreover there is nowhere in quran mentioned that a hindu is a kafir. most of the references are to the people who were living in arab as wel as many were jews and many were christians. but again not every hindu is a kafir nor that every jew is kafir nor that every christian is kafir. infact in some verses some of the people from these two communities (jews and christians) are highly praised. praised at such a level that most of the muslims are below that level as in chapter 4 verse 162 anyway my dear friend i think u hav not studied ur religions scriptures. if u study vedas u will find that there is an alternative word of this kind in ur religion as wel. by the way i love u americans' this kind of brotherhood and openmindness goodbye.

my brother first a fall i am sorry for mistake done by other brothers tell them the hedis of your profet(S.A.W.S)sallalla-hu-allai-wasallam that the allah who is almighty had told that dont tell anybody kafir becuse all are made by alllah if you do this you have to pay for it at day of judgement, if you are true then prove it or you dont have the right to blame on others if they are not listening after your proof then they are punihed by allah who loves every one greater than 70 mothers(hadis from bukhari approved from madina). please my brother dont get hurted i will help you in any way in islam. i welcome you always in islam .if you have still doubts please share with me ''insha-allah'' i will help you.

Ok, If I can explain u I m making try for it. I m not of those who has too much knowledge of Islam, I hv very little but I follow Islam, so I know its a actual wealth somebody have. Let me discuss about a word "KAFIR". Islam says Allah is One and Muhammad is prophet. You must beleive this. If someone reject this he/she called "KAFIR". So if u don't like someone say u "KAFIR". Then come to the world of Islam. It is the only true religious of the world. It is a religion of who has created this world. Not of any man. Think very seriously.
