A lot of folks on many sites including MyLot, Facebook and Twitter do not want to put their own picture on their profile. The reason may be many including the fact that they would like to be keep their real identity discreet. I am also one of them and I have put a tiger's avatar on my profile - I decided to put my own picture some time later. But then many go ahead and put their kid's picture on their profile. Now, it is presumed that in the case of infants and little kids, they are not giving their express permission to their Dad or Mom to put their picture up on any site. But of course, their parent may be surely meaning well in putting the picture up...So what do you think? Is it fair on the kid whose picture is on the site without he/she being fully aware of what it really means? Request that all of you give your views!

Okay, I don't have pictures of my children in either my avatar here or my profile picture on facebook. I do, however have photos of my children in my photo albums on facebook and I also have hundreds of scrapbook pages online in various digital scrapbooking sites that feature my children. I think there is nothing wrong with this because of the fact that they are minors and to give their consent at their ages actually is my giving consent because of the fact that they are minors and at this stage in their lives their consent comes from either my husband or myself.

I think it's weird that people who have Facebook, etc, don't want their pictures up to protect their identity, but yet they put pictures of their kids, which therefore, reveals their identity. It makes no sense to me. I think you have the right idea putting a picture of a tiger, that way you are protecting everybody in your family's identity.

I'm one of those who often post their kid's photos in their profile page rather than their own. For one, my daughter is 8 years old and she knows that I use her photo in my profile (she's pretty okay with that) whenever I don't have a good recent snapshot of myself to post (and not because I wanted to be discreet). I also post her photos because I'm proud of her, and I want my family and friends to see her recent pictures. There are privacy settings that you can always adjust to a level that you're comfortable with, so I don't consider it much of a problem.

No, I wouldn't put my childrens photos on any site (unless they had given their consent & I certainly wouldn't if they were too young to make an informed decision on it) tho' I am extremely proud of them - its a sad comment on the world we live in isn't it. I wouldn't put anyone elses picture on without their permission. I asked my mum before I used this photo of us as my profile pic.

Let people look at it this way and ask themselves a question - "if I put up my little daughters' picture today on xyz site, will she forgive me when she grows up for submitting her picture to the whole world?" Remember, putting up a picture is giving it away to the entire world, because anyone can save or copy the picture.

Well if you want to go into the technical side of things, they cannot tell you, "I dont want my picture there please take it down". I personally think that you shouldnt put kids up but thats just me I dont want the world and his wife seeing my kids, yes they are beautiful but I wouldnt feel comfortable knowing that everyone could see them. I dont mind showing pictures of myself but I like my angel picture!

True. With pictures becoming public on the internet with even Facebook bending to suit itself rather than listen to people, putting up a picture means that you've lost it to cyberspace. Facebook changed its rules a few days back to make all members' details including pictures public. So it is even more relevant that any pictures that are not uploaded with consent, including little kids, be reviewed once again.

I am not a member of Facebook so I didnt know that! They shouldnt do that! What if people dont want their pictures broadcast to everyone!? But then I guess its their right to close the account or take pcitures down if they dont want everyone to see them!
