No idea! I would say it would of been first made in either somewhere in Europe or maybe even China. I am just thankful for such a delicious food!

cacao was discovered 2,000 years ago in america... it was the Maya and Aztec people who first used it as a chocolate drink, when Spanish explorers discovered cacao, they brought it to Spain thus it started to gain popularity as a chocolate drink not just in Spain but all over Europe. Later on, Coenraad Johannes van Houten from Amsterdam, initiated the innovation of manufacturing cocoa powder... In 1847, English chocolate maker J. S. Fry & Sons was the first to produce a chocolate bar which is now owned by Cadbury... :)

Chocolate has been used as a drink for at least 3000 years. Our word 'chocolate' comes from an Aztec word - xocolatl - meaning 'bitter water'. As a drink, it was originally made only with water and was brought to Spain by the Spanish Conquistadores in the 16th Century. It became popular in England in the mid 17th century and it doesn't seem to have been until the 19th Century that milk was added, though an English doctor apparently added milk to chocolate in 1657. It seems to have been only since the 19th Century, too, that chocolate has been made into a solid sweetmeat and used as a covering for various fillings. Gosh...this is a tough one...I'm a chocoholic myself but I have no idea where they first made it...all I know is it came from the cacao beans...and they discovered incidently that they can make chocolate drinks out of it just like coffe beans...then later on they made chocolate candies..i'm not sure but I think they started in Africa.
