Trees play dominant role in protecting our precious soil and water resources.When forests are cut down,top soil is swept into rivers and the river-beds are raised.As a result,banks are flooded and crops are destroyed.Moreover,rainfall is reduced by extensive deforestation and production of crops is affected.Deforestation also causes lack of fuel wood and people burn animal manure like cow-dung for cooking purposes.Thus animal manure which is a precious fertilizer is diverted from land. Tree planting projects are necessary to check soil erosion,floods and droughts and,above all,to fight against environmental pollution.Experts make villagers aware of the need to plant trees and determine what type of trees should be grown in rural areas.Villagers are asked to attend group discussions,help with planting and use animal dung for fertilizers only.Saplings are distributed free of cost among them.But they should be aware that they should take care of the saplings and enclosures should be erected to protect the young trees.
