Lionel Messi was named the official World Player of the Year in 2009 after receiving a prestigious award in the World Player of the 19th, Tuesday
Messi to collect the total points earned from voting in the coaches and captains of 147 national teams, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo in second place
Partners in Barcelona Messi, Xavi third ranked Andres Iniesta and the fifth ranked Kaka won the fourth position with
This achievement is not surprising considering many Messi phenomenal performance during the year 2009, where he led his club, Barcelona through a historic season by reaching the championship title six LaLiga, Copa Del Rey, Spanish Super Cup, European Champions League champions, the European Super Cup and World Cup final champion Inter-Club
This award is a first for Messi, as well as making it the first Argentine player who won the World Player of the Year trophy.
This award also complements the European Player of the Year title that achieved previously Messi

First of all I have to say that I am not a big fan of Lionel Messi. He plays for F.
C. Barcelona and I am a supporter of Real Madrid.
He is an outsanding soccer player, no doubt about it, but this award, Fifa World Player, involves an interesting contradiction. It pretends to reward the best soccer player in the world, but if your club won nothing last year, you cannot aspire to get it.
And that´s precisely the problem with Lionel Messi: I think he is too much dependent on the performace of the whole team. He needs a club where everything is okay to show his talent. In the Argentina national team, Messi is not playing very well. Argentine press is critizing him because of it.
So 2010 will be a great year for Lionel Messi only if F. C. Barcelona and Argentine national team achieve to play good soccer.

Lionel Messi does deserve the award. He is the best player in the World at the moment with his consistency.Though individually he lags behind Ronaldinho in skill and Christiano Ronaldo in overall game play,as a complete player he is superior to either of them at the moment. He just misses the World Cup golden boot in his awards cabinet.

Congratulations, Lionel the first Argentinian. Seems like Messi deserves it. I don't any reason to refute it coz he's not far from flawlessness, not including his length. The only hope from me is that he'd better not replay what Ronaldinho did.
