Some people only feel happy when good things come their way and when things don't go their way they feel sorry for themselves and have lost their joy by feeling so sad, so lonely and depressed all their life...While some people choose to be happy despite of the things that are happening whether it's good or bad...because no man, circumstances and adversities can steal their joy, for they choose to be happy or joyful no matter what.
Of course, It's not like wearing a mask or pretending, it's by keeping a good attitude and it can turn things around for good because God will bless you and help you. I know at first it's hard to maintain and keep this kind of attitude but it's just start from thinking right and staying positive with full of faith that every bad thing that's happening are just temporary...If we choose joy...it will be our strength to go on in life and be victorious in life![em]happy[/em
So mylotters...do you choose to be happy despite of adversities? Or do you find it hard to deal with happiness when you face adversities?
Happy mylotting and Happy Holidays!

There was a time in my younger years, after reading about positive thinking and how our thinking/atitude effects our emotions, that i tried very hard to have a positive atitude and positive thoughts. I have since become rather dissilusioned with the whole idea of trying to maintain positive thinking and positive attitude .
For one thing, i found it took a lot of energy to try to think positively all the time. Maybe i'm just a negative person, that it took so much energy, but it was just too much. It wasn't worth it. I found it was preferable to be unhappy than to have to work so hard.
I'm more prone to believe now that it is more a matter of what we DO and how we LIVE that promotes happiness than our thinking negatively or positively. If you are depressed, the worst thing to do is lie in bed and do nothing. If at all possible, get up and do something. I find even cleaning my kitchen helps me cheer up. It's not that i enjoy cleaning the kitchen. But once i start, just moving around the kitchen, shining the sink etc, i feel like i'm alive and accomplishing something.
It's important to have goals- long term goals, and concrete steps to accomplish those goals. By working step by step on our goals every day, we increase our feelings of wellbeing and happiness.

yup your right, diverting your attention to other things is good. What I mean by keeping the right attitude is not dwelling on the negative things around us but to move forward, of course, we're human we really feel disappointed and sad, but after we felt that way we let it go as soon as possible get up and face each day with joy, It's a step by step process to maintain the positive outlook in life and it should be part of our long term goals.

hard to admit it but i am the "negative" type of a person. i know it's not good but that's really how i am. i often ruin my day with just a simple mishap. it's hard to make myself happy because i always see the negative things around me. i know that there are a lot of happy things around but those negative ones are the ones that hit me the most and affect me. With that being said, i guess it' really true that happiness is such a choice. we can always choose to see the bright side.

I totally agree. People aren't just unhappy because they're forced to be unhappy, it's because they choose to be unhappy and yet they blame it angrily on the world when in reality, we each have a choice to be happy. We can all choose to look at the events in our life in a positive or negative light. It's what we choose and how we think of everything that influences how we feel, so of course if we think negatively all the time, we won't be as happy as we want to be. Like you said, it is hard to maitain this positive attitude in the beginning because it's different from what everybody is use to. A majority of people like to focus on the bad things instead of the good things. But thinking differently and more positively is worth it in the end because you will be happier and more satisfied wih life. I, myself am still working on maintaining this positive attitude because it definitely can get hard sometimes, what with the bad economy and different financial hardships that I'm going through, but I remain thankful for everything that I have because God could have chosen not to give it to me, but yet he did and for that, I am thankful.
