What are some important lessons have you gained from this site?

Iam now looking on my year's experience and I am making an inventory so this question came to me. Personally, I have gained a lot being on this site. It seems as it is a foundatory site for others.
It is from this site, MYLOT, that from the discussion I am able to access other sites, get information and know what is happening elsewhere.What about you? please share.

The most important thing I've learned from Mylot is how to get along with people I might disagree with. In real life, I tend to have friends of my same social circle, political belief system. Here, I'm friends with people from other countries and even some Republicans (which would never, ever happen in my actual reality).
