Buying old cars

I found a 78 camaro with a built 350 for $1000, but it needs some work. As an ametur mechanic, I think I'm gonna go for it, but would anyone else here take on a project car?

Heck all my cars are project cars. I can't afford to buy a new one just to have it lose 3/4 of it's value as soon as I sign the paperwork.
