How many of us hate these bad road conditions,

i hate all the roads that have not been treated with a grit lorry.I have even noticed that alot of car parks have not been treated either like the drs and the hospital carparks which i think is really bad.Today i asked my brother to drive me to a clinic with my son and thankfully he did as i was a bit worried about how slippery the roads would be and then the carpark.Both the car park and the road had not been treated.

It seems that whenever I move to a new place the road is terrible and then they fix it, so there is all the disruption and dust and noise, but then, wheee, a shiny new smooth road to travel. Unfortunately it will not stay that way.

hi again I would think the hospital car parks specially would be gritted first as there is always important traffic in a medical facility. that is odd.

They were like a skating ring,people were falling over in the car park as well.I think it is discusting to think that the car park was not cleared as there are alot of cars that go in as well as out of there all day as well as all night.

This year it seems like they can not keep on top of the bad roads where as they seem to keep doing all of the same roads.I think it is a real shame the car parks as well as the long drive ways to the hospital as well as other services car parks are soo dangerous and it seems like noone cares.

Are you from India? If you are, then you must be knowing how irritating it gets to drive on these bad roads. Our country is full of them, and nothing can be done about it. Even if they lay new roads, soon after the work is finished, within a week, you would see labourers working on the road again, digging some pit to lay cables or fix wires or water pipes and soon the road is back to it's original condition as it was before. Ha ha ...

I am from the UK.Where i live we get a grit lorry that is supposed to throw grit on to the roads to break the snow down so that the roads are no like a skating ring to stop accidents.

they finally dumped something on our roads..unfortunetly all that's going to do is dirty the snow and keep it around longer.some of it is melting today,but it's going to be a royal mess tonight when it freezes over.

They seem to only do a few of the roads where i live,they are the roads that they class as the main routes.I would think they would have done a few car parks like the hospital car parks as there are lots of people that use the car parks,at this rate alot of people will be in hospital due to accidents as their car park is soo slippery.

yea they do that here too to an extent-thing is though,i'm right near the hospital they're supposed to do my area first.they didn't do a very good job at it tho,i hope the ambulances don't have a time with it.

I think that it is a shame that they can not do at least half of the roads as well as make all the carparks that have to be used for things like the hospitals as well as other services alot better as surley at the end of the day they know it would be safer for all concerned.

There was an article in our newspaper just the other day saying that instead of repaving, they're tearing up the tarmac and just going back to dirt roads. The towns don't have the money for road upkeep in this economy any more. Hopefully they will continue to put salt and dirt on the roads during winter like they have been so it won't be icy. Is that what you call grit lorry in your country? I can't imagine hospitals and drs offices not having something on the ice so people won't get hurt. This sounds horribly dangerous where you are.

I am in the UK in Suffolk as in East Anglia.The hospitals you have to pay alot of money to park your car there as well so you would think that they would do something about their car park,where as the drs and the clinics do not charge to park so perhaps they do not have the money to pay for the grit or the sand/salt to go on their car parks.Gritters throw out like small particals of grit as in stone stuff so that it disolves the snow as well as provides grip for the wheels on the car.

Hi jj, you are so right about the roads too they are as bad as the pavements though some have become walkable on my way as there hasn't been any snow as yet! Am feeling better but still weak the meds the dr gave me seem to be doing the trick....hope you have a lovely Christmas..LoLo

I know what you mean as it is soo hard to stay standing on your feet as the paths are soo slippery,then there is trying to cross the road as well which is also as bad as the paths.I can not wait for the snow to go.Sorry to hear that you had swine flu,hope you are feeling better.

since i don't have a car and walk everywhere this hasn't affected me a much as it seems to everyone else but i have felt for the ambulance/fire crews and poor mountain rescue who've been doing overtime having to assist them everywhere. It was difficult going into town today up near me it's not heavy traffic but town was just slush which made it alot hazzardous. On the plus side i've been acting like a kid again throwing snowballs and making snow angels with the pooch guess there is still a kid in their somewhere lol
23 Dec 09
my tietzes plays up with the cold aswell so i sympathise but i figured i'm already in pain so sod it i did have to keep taking breathers though the dog has alot more energy than me lol i have to admit i was glad on numerous occasions i was walking and not driving as my heart was in my mouth on numerous occasions of near misses. Glad you got to the clinic ok merry xmas
@jugsjugs (12967)

My children love to snow until they are all cold and wet,lol.I tend to stay in the warm as i have a circulation problem that causes pain.I hate to drive in the snow as this just freaks me out,so seems my brother is a good driver as well as like snow on the roads he drove me to the clinic.
@jugsjugs (12967)

I thought that parts of the roads were bad enough until i saw the car park now the car park was very scary as there had been nothing done to it.I was seeing alot of near misses as well as cars that were having problems trying to stop in the car park.Merry Christmas.

sounds like montreal they really do not do much here at all to keep the roads nice, they don't even have to bring out the snow plows for 72 hours after a major storm as well. It is just terrible.

You would have thought of all places a hospitals car park would have been cleared of the ice and snow as well as a clinic that is also used all the time would have been treated.You could not hardly stand up on the hospital car park as it was that slippery.

They come out around here as soon as snow falls and put sand down in the major intersections. I think they do a pretty good job here. What I hate is alot of areas get bad chuck holes and it takes forever to get them fixed. It seemed like forver anyway when you drive over them ever day, day in and day out. Gets old.

Well, we don't live in an area where we have car parks. I have always found a place to park.
@jugsjugs (12967)

Oh yes.The thing that makes me angry is that even when you have to pay alot of money to park in a car park like for instance the hospital car park they charge alot of money to leave your car there they had not done nothing at all in the car park and peoples cars were sliding as well as people falling over and that is the hospital.

This was a particular problem for me on Monday whilst on my journey to work. I was driving my usual route to work and hadn't quite made it to the main road so was taking each corner with extreme caution and tried to keep off the break as much a possible. Anyway as I was approaching a junction to turn into a another side road I must of hit a patch of black ice. Having been practically stationary and only having turned the wheel slightly suddenly I lost control of the car and I felt myself doing a 180 on the road. When i'd finished skating on the road I was left facing oncoming traffic. Have never experienced anything like that before. Eventually when I did reach the main road I was so freaked out I didn't feel safe driving above about 40mph on a 60mph road. Even when I reached my destination I had to leave the main roads and again travel on ungritted surfaces. Eventually having to park in an icey car park on a steep hill. Am really hoping the roads won't be as bad next week when I have to go back to work.

I do not know if you are like me and keep an eye on what they are saying about the snow as well as the freezing conditions,as i think that even if they are right it do not make the roads much better.At the moment the snow has stopped,but the roads are still slippery when it freezes,i tend to drive carefully as i am rather nervous since my car also slid on the roads.

Oh yes, many of us hate bad road conditions. Icy roads are the most scary for me to drive on, as no matter what, there is so little one can do to control the car when it goes into a slide!
• United States
23 Dec 09
Ack! You are right. That IS the scariest. When the roads are horried, the less traffic, the better I like it.
@jugsjugs (12967)
23 Dec 09
Thats what scares me is if a car i was driving went into a slide as well as if a car was coming towards me went into a slide i think that would really panic me.The other thing is that if you are getting to a junction and you can not stop the car that would scar me as well.

For us here, there hasn't really been any bad winter weather up to this point. However, I know that when it does hit, it is going to be bad and we are going to have to deal with the roads being terrible if not impassible. I know that our street is not very high up on the priority list so if we are hit with a strong winter storm we will possibly be trapped on our court for a few days because of the fact that courts do not fall onto necessary road treatment lists.

Here it seems like there has not been much done to the roads as well as the car parks.I am soo pleased that all the snow has now all gone,i just hope that if we get the snow then they will do more gritting as well as sooner on the roads this time rather than waiting until it gets bad.

OH I sure do hate them bad road conditions. One has to be so careful not to run the care over deep holes, since its likely to blow out tires. Have you ever had that happened to you. My friend just the other day lost 2 rear tires on that and it was costly to repair.
@jugsjugs (12967)

I am more worried about all the snow and the ice on the roads as the roads are soo dangerous what with all the traffic as the other day everyones cars are sliding all over the road.The snow has now stopped so lets hope the roads will not get as bad as that in a hurry again.

ALL!. all of us hate bad road conditions (with one exception of course). And are they? They are the politicians who loves bad roads so that they can have budget for the repair. And budget means money, I mean kick-backs for them. But I'm only talking about politicians in my country. Hope that others are not as what I think politicians are.lol
@jugsjugs (12967)
23 Dec 09
I think that all politicians are the same and that is they try to get as much money as they can,but never have i known one that can say they have done all what they were going to do with all of their promises.If there are people in the govmt say it costs too much to keep the roads clear then they must be putting a price on peoples lives in my eyes.

I hate, hate, hate these road conditions. We try to work around it but it doesn't seem to help. And they can never plow these roads properly. Took three days to have almost all the snow melt off of it.
@jugsjugs (12967)

I think that there is alot less being done to prevent the build up of snow as there has been years where there has been alot more snow as well as they have managed to keep it from settling on the roads as well as they used to ensure that all the drs,hospitals as well as other clinic car parks were kept clear.

we all hate it..its the responsibility of the Govt..which always seem to be sleeping..in my city also i have so many roads that need to be broadened and many need repairing..the area which are newly developing..buildings get built there ...but not roads which are supposed to be made ready first...its all the laziness of the government people, once they occupy the seats, they care only for their pockets..at least in India i have seen this..don't know about other countries.
@jugsjugs (12967)
23 Dec 09
I think you are right that the gov should do alot more rather than keep putting money in their own pockets.I think that there is no need for the roads to get as bad as they are as there are aof things that they could of as well as should have done to prevent all the the problems.

I dont like the traffic more than the bad road conditions actually. But if those two things are present at the same time then its quite close to intense irritation. I wouldnt mind bumping on rocky roads as long as it doesnt damage the car. Though it could be very dangerous travelling in under developed slippery roads. That's like having no brakes. Bumps are kinda breakers from the full effect cause the car would have a chance to stop or slow down at points but with the slippery roads it is kinda like not having actual control of ones' car. The passengers and drivers will be helpless in such cases. The government officials or just the community should be pitching in to make sure that the roads are safe, most especially during the winter season. Take care always.
@jugsjugs (12967)
23 Dec 09
It is such a shame that there is not done on the roads to prevent all the problems that cause all the accidents which then of cause there are alot of serious accidents as well as deaths.Alot of accidents could have been avoided if they had only done something to the roads before they let the snow settle.Hope you have a nice Christmas and take care.

@jugsjugs (12967)
23 Dec 09
Well i do think that there is going to be alot of people complaining about the state that our area let the roads get in as well as stay in such dangerous conditions as we pay the council a payment in our council tax towards the upkeep of these areas.Thankfully i have heard it is going to rain so i hope that will melt the snow,the only worry then is the ice that may replace it if it freezes.

most of us daily work holder will hate the bad road condtion actually and seems they always have to repair the road or renew it again and again. they make the road more like one zipper that is can pull it very easily and the crowded cars on the road never less but more and more daily.
@jugsjugs (12967)
23 Dec 09
I think that there are alot more cars on the road now than there was say about 3 years ago which makes the roads busier than ever and when it is rush hour traffis that gets alot worse and that is without all the snow and the icy conditions that also do not help.

It is bad when you have to drive on bad roads because they have not clear yet. Sometimes I think they just wait to see if the sun will melt the snow so they do not have to get out and clean them.
@jugsjugs (12967)
23 Dec 09
I think you are right there.We are supposed to get rain here tonight so i hope that is going to melt the snow,the only problem with the snow melting is that if it then freezes the roads will be just as bad as having snow on them i think.The gritter is out as well tonight so better late than never i think.
