Hi, Onlinetreasures. Welcome to myLot!
Of course, I am familiar with that because I am from the Philippines, too. When it comes to beliefs that involve giving us good luck, people readily and quickly follow or do it. I also gave in to that belief as I believe that there is no harm trying to imitate. What if it comes true?
These beliefs and practices are copied from the Chinese. I have so many Chinese friends at work and we live with the Chinese for long in our country. It is the Chinese whose businesses are thriving in the Philippines and they are one of the wealthiest people in the country. So, in a way, there must be truth to what these beliefs are.
They believe that wearing something with polka dots on New Year's eve bring in good luck for the wearer for the rest of the year. They believe that the dots or designs with circles denote money.

Yes, they are from our Chinese friends. The Chinese people have lots of them. Do you also make it a point to have 12 different fruits which are round in shape? The Chinese people think that they bring good luck as the round shape denotes money. They also think that eating sweets on New Year's eve makes life sweet for you. The Chinese never like to wear something black as this would mean sorrow. They would not want to have plants at home which have pointed leaves or those with thorns ... they say they bring tears and misery. There are still lots that escaped my memory now.

yes it probably is-its common practice here in the philippines before but few families are doing it now. wearing clothes with dots and circular designs would be lucky as they symbolize money

Are you from the philippines? If you are, it's no wonder how we've come to think of this tradition, i think we adapted it from the chinese beliefs. But i don't. However, I have tried placing coins in my pocket during new year's eve for financial abundance in the coming year

Hi!!
I wasn't aware of such a tradition where in we were made to wear shirts with geometric prints on them.I have many of my shirts with geometric prints on them and seem to be more of illusive kind of shirts lol because my Mom feels that these shirts look good on me and yeah they bring luck as well but I wasn't aware of any such tradition.Since you are saying that its being followed at your place I would definitely wear a geometric print shirt this new year :).Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!!

I do! :-) Our family has complied to that tradition ever since. It's not like I wear shirts with polka dots when I hit the mall or some public place. We just stay at home during New Year to eat and have our ears ringing.
