stop a child from sucking a candy cane down to a point of death. I mean seriously it looks like a lethal weapon. And then he goes and walks around the house with it. He is 12 and should know better. But when I try and take it away from him, he just laughs. He is a good kid, but he finds this hysterical.

I know, here is what my mom used to do. Take the candy cane and put it in a baggie, preferably a Christmas baggie. Then take a hammer and smash the crap out of it, Turn it in little bite size pieces, that should cure him, wacky kid. Or, have more fun, put the candy cane into a baggie and smash it until its dust, sprinkle on vanilla ice cream.

I will never understand that every kids seems to eat their candy canes like that and I am sure that we all did it as kids too but it is so very dangerous. The only thing that I can think to do is to just plain grab it out off his hands when it is away from his mouth and throw it in the garbage and when he flips because you just did that you can tell him that you did it for his own safety and how dangerous it can be.

ersmommy1 first off back off and ignore him at twelve he is trying to and succeeding in getting your goat. if you hAd ignored him even if you thought he might hurt himself, he would have lost the fun of upsetting you and either ate the pointed' candy cane or gave up andgone someplace else. feed a twelve yeAr olds need for shocking and upsetting And you get laughter and more misbehavior. He is only twelve and beg your pardon he really does not know better as he is trying to rile you up to see you explode which is just what you did. let him stick that silly pointed cane in his body,it really will not do bodily harm just hurt like the dickens and he will see that Aunts do know best. I am 83 but once was 11 and i did the same thing but did not get the desired reaction and in my eagerness to upset I ended up running the point of the cane into the wall and losing all my precious candy. Then my smart mom got the last laugh and I mean she did laugh at me as I bawled cause my candy was all just powder. kids will be kids.So if he does it again steer him to the nearest wall, give him a shove and see the point smash into candy cane dust.he will learn not to be a wise actor after that episode. oneupsmanship use it with nephews.

I know and can see now how this would be dangerous...but at the same time i have to giggle, because i know that used to be the most fun part of eating candy canes when i was younger....to suck on them until you get a needle sharp tip on them....then try not to stab the roof of your mouth when you put it back in your mouth.... I would think that at the age of 12, he will probably be ok, but if it were a young child, i would take a previous users suggestion and break the candy cane down into smaller pieces, not small enough to choke on, but small enough they can't be shaped into daggers...and KEEP AN EYE ON THEM.....any kind of hard candy like that can pose a choking hazard with small children
