Some pregnant women are afraid of getting the swine flu vaccine. Only half of Montreal's pregnant woman got the vaccine,
they are afraid that it will hurt the baby,
but the health professionals are saying it is safe.
Babies are born without any immunity and they cannot be vaccinated before 6 months so the pregnant mother needs to be vaccinated.
do you agree or disagree with vaccinating pregnant women? please say why

This H1N1 deal is odd for me and my family. As my father is elderly and not in the greatest of health and I have respiratory problems we get flu shots each year. This year we have not got any of the flu shots and are doing fine. Go figure huh? I say it's all a personal preferance really. I am not around a lot of people due to staying home taking care of dad so I passed all shots this year.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Hi Grandpa Bob,
I am almost in the same deal as you are as far as the swine flu vaccine. I am disabled and don't leave the house that much, plus my own physician had trouble getting the regular flu shot, so I missed out on that. My doctor has the H1N1 vaccine now, but I'm not so sure I want to take it with all the publicity and all. For the past 5 or 6 years, I've gotten the regular flu shot. So I guess I'll just take my chances this year and when I do go out, run home and wash my hands real good. lol
Happy MyLotting!

I am disabled so I didn't bother to get it, they say that people with respiratory problems should not get it, I never leave the house so I did not see the need to get it.
pregnant women I can't make up my own mine on that issue.

I definitely agree with vaccinating pregnant women. Based on the evidence that is currently available, the vaccine is not dangerous to either the mother or the baby. True, we don't know absolutely for sure if there could be a risk we haven't found out about yet. However, we do know for sure that pregnant women are one of the high-risk groups when it comes to the swine flu and are more likely to have complications or even die from it. If I was pregnant, I would definitely get the vaccine. The CDC and others have done as many studies as they can to determine the safety of the vaccine. If so many experts agree that it is safe, who am I to decide to put myself or my baby at risk?

I don't know why your grand daugther got that shot but it is not the same thing as the H1N1 vaccine, the regular flu shot does not work on the swine flu.

Well, I'm not pregnant, so maybe my feelings would be different if I were. But in my own, uneducated opinion, I think the swine flu vaccine for a pregnant woman is a bad idea. Of course if a pregnant woman were in the middle of a swine flu epidemic perhaps I would see it differently. But here in the USA, it isn't an epidemic like some leaders would have us believe. So I would give that a no.

I have to say that I really don't know where I stand on the issue, cases of babies born with the swine flu have surfaced in both canada and the usa now. But I just don't know.

I would definitely do extensive research before doing so during pregnancy. I do feel that if there are medical issues, even far and above the lack of immunity of the baby, I would give it serious thought. There are times in our lives when we really do have to believe in someone. We also have to do our own research and formulate our own decisions and not just believe what our doctors say.

I did all the research I could find on the net, all the medical places including the world health organization say that is fine. The risks of not getting it are worse because pregnant women suffer from the flu much more severely than regular people and they require hospitalization and some actually die.
My concern is yeah they say it okay today, it is ten years down the line they come out with these big medical findings that kids were developmentally delayed or something like that because of the flu shot they have 10 years earlier. Look at vaccination and autism and the big stink about that now though the officials still maintain all the mothers are wrong, the vaccine had nothing to do with autism.

I would check some message boards on the subject and maybe email a doctor you find is in good stading on your subject of expertise.
