I have lost a lot of weight (150 + pounds!) and i am not 100% happy with my body. I have worked really hard and still have not been satisfied with the results. I don't like the look of my legs, stomach, or arms and nothing i do seems to help! My husband said he would pay for Plastic surgery if i wanted it. It would be about $14,000.00 to $20,000.00 to get all the work done... we would have some money to put down and the rest would be paid by a loan. He does have the money. Part of me was happy and revealed, anther part of me was kind of upset and scared. I'm not sure what to do!

First off congrads on losing that much weight. Without knowing exactly what the problem is I'm not sure how to respond. However, I have had several women in my family have either gastrol bypass or lapband surgery, and lose a great deal of weight. With that much weight it usually is a case of excess skin that is left behind. That is a lot of money to have the work done, but if within your budget, and all of your other finances are secure than I don't see why not. There are health risks to all surgery, but so long as you really do your homework 1st, and make absolutely certain you will be in the hands of a reputable plastic surgeon than it could be good for you. Also make sure you temper your expectations, with actual results. Those are things you should discuss with your doctor at length as well. You will not want to spend that much money if it doesn't live up to what you expect it to be. By the way, If it is a case of excess skin, then I would first check with your doctor and insurance companies. More and more insurance will pay for skin removal if you can demonstrate a medical need for it. For example if the problem is causing you to have rashes, sores or anything else that could lead to infection or further medical complications, you may be able to get your insurance to pay for all or some of the cost.

Thank you for your comment! I did have the gastric bypass surgery... i don't think i could have lost the weight any other way. Were not rich or anything but it is very doable for us right now i just feel guilty spending that much money on myself. On the other hand i have spent my whole life hating my body and not being able to wear what i want (the last time i wore a one piece bathing suit with out a t-shirt and shorts was when i was 5 i'm 21 now! I don't think my body is bad enough insurance will help out but its worth a try thanks again for your help! Happy holidays :) Jen

First off how long has it been since you've lost the weight and is it just extra skin that you're talking about. If it is I would research what other people have done to help get rid of it and then perhaps maybe only do part of the surgery now. Think about which part is the most painful for you to look at therefore you guys aren't having to put out a loan and it gives you more time to work on the other parts. I have plastic surgery to begin with and I think its a shame people think its ok to shell out so much money on it when it can be going to something better like a child/future child's college. Did you know that $14,000-$20,000 is what it costs to go to college for just one year. I'm at an in-state public university and all costs ends up being $18,000 a year.

Thats what i keep thinking about... i feel guilty about the money part. We just got married (6 months ago) and have no kids and after all of our bill have around $2,000.00 left over as play/save/ do what ever we want money. If i had kids there would be no way i'd do it. I never thought of breaking up the procedures. My arms bother me the most... than my legs... than my belly. Maybe I'll do something in the middle

I really don't know about plastic surgery. It can be very dangerous. :/ If you would like to wear certain clothes or go to the beach, or do other things with you body it might be worth going through surgery, but otherwise I'd advise not to.

I know what you mean this type of surgery costs a lot of money and is very very painful and leaves a lot of scares most the time. I just want to be able to be comfortable in my own skin. its hard to explain but i dont feel like me
