Do you have many casual friends OR a couple of close friends??

I have always considered myself very friendly and social. However, over the last five years I have noticed that many of my casual friends and acquaintances have drifted away. I have three close friends that I consider my best friends. They do not live close to me, they all live in another state, but I talk with each of them on a regular basis. Many people tell me that it's not healthy to have casual friendships that you can go shopping with or to "hang out" with. I am the mother of four and work full time at home and also work two other part time jobs. I feel like I don't have the time to put into "casual" friendships and would rather invest my time into keeping my very close friends, even though they live far away from me. Should there be a balance or are there others that do the same? Perhaps you feel like you don't have close friends, but many casual acquaintances? Which do you prefer?

..hi jenna.. I do have casual acquaintances but like you I have my two close friends.. I think it's okey to have casual acquaintances since it is really needed.. for example, we need to get acquainted with our neighbors, our workmates, and other people.. but it doesn't mean that we have to be close to them.. my two close friends are enough for me because we have known each other for a long time already.. our friendship has been tested so many times and we've survived.. .. I think it's hard for me to establish friendship again with other people or other group.. but both are needed.. acquaintances and friends, for us to have a good working relationship with other people..
