Can you wait?

So I've noticed a lot of families open their gifts well before Christmas, as they can't stand the suspense of what's inside those wonderfully wrapped boxes. I myself have opened the gifts from friends, and from my brother's family, but I will wait until Christmas morning to open gifts with my boyfriend. We decided to exchange two gifts early, and it was awesome! Both were things I absolutely love, so I just know whatever else he got me I'll love as well. It holds me over, to just open one or two, and save the rest. Especially if I love the ones I open early, then I can wait because I know it will make the excitement of Christmas morning even better!
How about you guys? Do you open your gifts early, or wait until Christmas morning? Do you make an exception and open a few early and save the rest?

My family can never wait... every year we say were going to wait but we are lucky if we wait till the day before Christmas eve.
Today we broke down and opened 1 gift and our stockings! I pray we can wait until Christmas but i'd be shocked if we do!

Haha, I feel the same way. But luckily my boyfriend makes me wait. He says if you open your gifts before Christmas it takes away part of the excitement of Christmas day. Haha, I make him wait because I want to see his face early in the morning [reason behind this is because he's always grumpy in the morning, so Christmas is always a good reason to make him happy in the morning!] , so he makes me wait because he wants my Christmas to be special. You can do it this year, haha!

Haha, well I hope you waited! My boyfriend and I waited until 12:30 am Christmas morning and opened them then, so even after I woke up later I was still happy!

I hope we can wait. Its true waiting for Christmas is well worth it. When we open the stuff early i am happy while opening stuff but than on Christmas i get all sad!
I'm lucky because i have a big family so one or two of us will beg everyone to open them and the other people will say no. Than it will switch and other people will beg an hour later. We all have to agree if we want to open early. We almost did this morning but my husband stood his ground and said no (he was the only one!)
I hope we can wait!

Aw, haha, cute! I don't get my cat a Christmas gift [though maybe next year I will!] but it's nice that you opened them so the other people could see you do so. =]

Hi TickleMeBreathless, though I don’t celebrate Christmas I still understand that how cheerful it will be to open the gifts received. It’s just similar to that when I receive birthday presents. very often I feel curious and keen to know what stuffs actually are in the attractive wrapping papers. The most exciting moment is to unwrap those presents from our dear loved ones that always amaze us
Wow! It’s really awesome to have the great idea of exchanging gifts with your boyfriend. Yeah I like it as well. I agree that if certain items are to be unwrapped until the Christmas morning will bring more joy to us for sure
Happy New Year!

Well, its really frustating to wait long for someone or something. But my friends tell me that I am good at waiting. I don't know whether I should take it positively or negatively. They do mean that I am very patient guy and play very smart and get what I want. But personally, I feel that I am not what they say. Actually, I am very impatient guy. I think my friends are more impatient than me and that is the reason they feel I am good at waiting.

Hi TMB - I read your post last night about opening the tickets your boyfriend gave you and thought that was so nice that you received something you really wanted. I have to laugh at your question about waiting to open gifts however, as this year, in my home there are no gifts. The economic situation we are in has made it impossible to celebrate Christmas with gifts this year. My hubby is a truck driver, driving a tanker, delivering fuel. He was with this company for the past 15 years and was laid off last summer. We lived on unemployment compensation for as long as it lasted while he searched and searched for another job. Unfortunately, there just isnt anybody hiring drivers in South Florida. If you own your own truck you could get work, but he dosen't and to invest in one now is just impossible as they cost in the 200 thousand dollar area. He now wishes he had done that when he was young. His age is also against him. He is 54 and even if he could find a company hiring drivers, chances are that they would hire someone much younger.. Thats just the way it is. I live on disability and although it does pay the bills, thats all it does and there is never anything left over, never. It came to the point that he had to just take a job, any job, as we did not want to face foreclosure on our home. He is now working like a dog in a factory doing manual labor for less than half of what we are used to. We even had to apply for foodstamps and my husband was just devastated to ask the state for help as he is a very proud man. I have told him over and over that sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. In any case, we cannot afford to buy gifts this year and although we put up a tree and are trying to maintain an upbeat attitude, there will be no presents under it this year. I'm am baking cookies for people that I normally give gifts to and thats all I can do. Christas is not supposed to be about gifts anyway and I think that the true meaning of Christas has got lost in all the commerciality of it all. It is Christs birthday and its his day, not ours. We will attend midnight mass like we always do and I will make dinner and thats going to be it. I know I'm not alone here and I'm just really grateful that I do not have young children that expect Santa to come. I don't know what I would do. So, enjoy the freedom you obviously have while you are young. I am grateful that I have a roof over my head, unlike so many here in South Florida, and food to eat. I'm grateful that we can pay our electric bill and our water bill and maintain telephones and internet service. Those are my gifts..Merry Christmas to you and yours and I hope you receive everything you want! God bless and pray for others less fortunate for a better 2010.

I understand what you're going through, as my family has also had to make many changes. We had our own home foreclosed on, my dad decided to leave my disabled mother and I. My mom and I are on rental assistance, food stamps, heating and electrical assistance. I've had to leave my hometown as there was nothing left to move to. I was lucky to have money for Christmas this year - I saved my online earnings for a long time to be able to afford to get everyone something small. I found myself shoveling snow and raking leaves to save up for it. Finally I earned 150 dollars - I saved that for seven months. I felt so proud. So this year, I'm excited because I was finally able to get my friends and family something they could enjoy.
I'm sorry your husband has to work in a factory - my dad went through that for the longest time, but eventually he had to stop because of his back. I hope your husband finds a decent job. Also, my mom is on disability as well, so whatever extra income I get goes toward what we need - paper towels, soap, shampoo, etc. My boyfriend has an on-off job, so he was able to afford to spoil me this year [I'm so very lucky!] . I get four gifts from him, and it's wonderful to know he works hard and thinks about me.
I do hope you have a wonderful Christmas anyway, and I hope 2010 will be a better year for you and your husband. I pray it will be a lot better for all the struggling families out there. I know I'm young, but I've been in tough situations before, and I know how hard it can be to ask for help. But there has to be something else you could get help with - assistance with your mortgage, perhaps. Either way, I wish you all the best for the new year.

Well, it has been a Christmas tradition since we were small to always open gifts on the actual Christmas day. When we were younger, we get up so early so just we can open them up. Now, that I'm in my mid 30s, I'm just happy watching my nieces get so pumped up on Christmas day to open up their gifts. Really does bring back memories.

The only time I'm allowed to open something early is if its a christmas card in the mail, otherwise everything waits to be opened Christmas morning. For me a lot of times I already know what I'm getting so therefore its not that big of a surprise. And the thing is I know what I get because they tell me so I don't buy it myself - like I'm getting a new digital camera this year - or they just want to know what I actually need. For me when I ask for Christmas presents I normally don't go towards wants in life, I go to what I need because I'm a broke college student.
I know my mom doesn't have a lot to spend on each of her daughters, but for me she's giving me $100 in cash to buy my books for 1 of my 6 classes next semester.
