I'm a chronic nail-biter over 30 who tried everything but could never stop. I have been able to curb my desire at times using aversion therapy--thinking about how disgusting it is to eat my nails (My high school biology teacher used to scold me that I'll get worms if I don't stop). I also found that worrying about it makes me bite my nails more. Hopefully you are just an average nail-biter and will successfully outgrow or stop the nasty habit). But I'm a hard-wired nail-biter (I also bite my toenails. . .ewww!) and am not sure there's a cure. Otherwise, I'm a a normal, happy, married athletic guy. GOOD LUCK!!!

The free and easy cure is that you need to stop focusing on biting your nails, and replace it with a small healthy activity that will change your habit. Look at the things that make the biting arise, and look to change those things or your reaction to those things. Good luck.

I had a friend in high school who would bite her nails until they would bleed. She tried so many ways to stop the bad habit. She finally tried one of the liquid products that one paints on their nails. Supposedly they work by either burning your mouth or tasting very bad when you put your nails into your mouth. This worked especially well for those times when she absent-mindedly bit her nails without even realizing that she was doing it!

hi, in some nail polishes removers they put a biting agent in them to prevent kids from swallowing. that may help you but the only thing once the remover dries you may not be able to taste the biting agent. you may want to try fake nails, or just try to remember all the dirty things you have touched throughout the day.
