Just read a article were a blogger was sentence to 4 years in prison for insulting Islam and the president of Egypt. Do you think justice was served or is this being a bit to strict? With the way the world is now could this happen anywhere with any religion or political figure or just in countries were Islam is law?

All countries got a set of rules, In some countries we call presidents and prime minister anything and can publish cartoons in news papers, all countries don't allows it. Especially many of the monarchic countries. China got a strict web filter and tracking system, if anybody go against country or people they used to trace them and catch. So there is nothing to be worried about so called "Islamic law" here.

Right now I'm going to say it happens where Islam is law, but that wasn't true in the past. So in reality it could happen anywhere.

I would like to read the news article on this piece of news! I blog quite often and I always write about things that I hate or complain about (sometimes I also write about things that I actually like and find interesting). I have been wondering what the rules in blogging are, and I specifically asked Blogger if it's alright that I write about "hate" and they said that they value my opinion and that it's alright to write about my feelings as long as it does not lean towards being racist and such.
Maybe the blogger that was imprisoned for four years wrote terrible, terrible things about the President of Egypt and about Islam that it was already against the law? There is such a thing as "libel" where you accuse people of something they're not. That is why I'm interested to read his article and see what mistakes he committed.
I know for a fact that a prominent foreign editor blogged about Filipinos being "slaves" - which is a racist comment, but he was not imprisoned but he did make a formal apology (which I doubt he meant).

I think this can only happen if you write a blog against Islam and you reside in the same country where Islam is the state religion like Egypt or Saudi Arabia. But will this happen if you write against Islam and you reside in the Italian Christian city of Vatican?
