So, I get to Maggie's place early to look for cans & I see some grocery sized bags down by the trash dumpster & decide to look to see if there are any cans in there.
There are, but not like I expected.
They are full of cans of food.
Unopened food.
Clean, unopened cans of food.
Looks like Maggie got an early Christmas present from some stranger.
You have any really unexpected, presents?

That is awesomely weird. I hope it is stuff she needs and likes. Someone may have been watching you check for cans for her and decided to do this. I hope it makes Christmas even merrier and is a real blessing. Maggiepie is a cool person.

Yes! I love corn & ravioli, soups, etc. And no, this wound up becoming mine, but it was originally just thrown out--right next to the dumpster--not close to my apartment!
Christmas is always merry for me, as my focus isn't on presents (except insofar as I always love to be able to give them, so I'm a bit peeved at myself when I can't do so, as is the case this year). The love, the sense of friendship & joy, the Reason for the season--all these make me merry!
Merry Christmas to you, hun--& thanks for the compliment!

I forgot - I did recently get a surprise and unexpected gift when my friend in VA sent two packages to me, one said I could open now; the other said not until Christmas. The one I opened had dish towels, one of which she had crocheted a top to so I could button it to the handle of the oven. I LOVE those kinds of towels!!! It was so very nice of her to do out of the blue like that.

Hi ElicBxn. What a nice suprise for her. Did she have any idea who left the food for her? I have never had anything like that happen to me, I wish I had.

I hate to throw away food too. If there was nothing wrong with it I couldn't see throwing it away. I guess she just got lucky that you found it.

wow that was great, when I moved into this place the last people left a few of their things that they didn't want anymore, like an electric frying pan and a blender and a big of pennies, there was 66.00 in pennies.

That is kind of weird. But surprises can be fun. I hope this was a good surprise for Maggie.

One of my bosses is too sick to have me go over and she feels badly that I'm missing out on money, so she wants to give me a bonus. That's pretty unexpected. Another one of my friends gave me shirts to pass along to people who need clothes, while not directly affecting me, that was not expected and neither were the layoffs that my cousins who could wear the clothes had. So it's kind of working out.

A few years ago I opened my front door because the doorbell rang. There was nobody there but there was a little bag and in it was a handmade angel and a card that said "to an angel from a friend". I never did find out who left it but I treasure that ornament. I didn't put up a big tree this year, just a small one, but the angel is hanging on my fireplace as a reminder that someone loves me.

Yes, indeed! I'm blown away! This isn't cheap food, either! There were a couple of off-brands, but instead of the usual carb-ridden stuff, there were really good items. Even a can of mandarin oranges! And even what carbs there were included the best of its kind--a can of lentil soup, e.g.
Elic will take some of this to a food bank, since it's not good for me (I'm diabetic, & must try not to get too much sugar & starch).
What gets me is whoever left this food was ready to see it all wasted; they left it next to the dumpster!? Shoot, I know the office would have taken it & made sure it went to someone needy! Another weird thing is that Elic actually looked into the bag; what motivated her to do so? That's not like her!
Anyway, this isn't the first time I've been the beneficiary of free food, left on my back doorstep by unseen donors--that happened on my 16th Thanksgiving (& we rarely went out the back door. I still don't know why I decided to do so that time! I've no idea how long that feast had waited for discovery!).
Also, virtually every time I go out, I find some money. Usually only a penny or so, but more often than one would expect, folding cash! Up to $50, once!
God always provides.

I suspect that someone didn't want to move the food, but didn't want to throw it away either, so left it outside the dumpster in hopes someone who needed food would find it - I was the happy finder - but I don't need the food and I sure don't need THAT food, (4 cans of corn for one thing) but Maggie does!

Not this year (not yet, anyway) but in other years I've found money... $50, $85 and $100.

I haven't had a good surprise lately, I like giving them though, when I can. I know some people that need different things and I like sending gift cards for food and gas, anonymously. I don't want someone to feel as if they owe me something and would rather hear someone tell me about something they received and wonder who could have sent them!! Secret Santa all year round is great!

lol....I've sent gift cards but with no return address and out of town so it's not from one of the local post offices. If someone asks for something and I have the extra to give, I give it right away. If they're just talking and don't ask, it ends up finding its way to their door sooner or later......I rarely give cash because that's when it's not used for what it is intended on being used for.
I like making others happy and to take care of them without them feeling like they owe me something or need to pay me back. I figure what comes around goes around, if I'm ever in need of something, somehow I will receive what I need. And I believe in karma....

I got home from having the ultra sound on Monday morning (it was late Monday night) and someone had dropped off a half a cord of oak firewood. Since I heat only with wood, it was not only a surprise but a wonderful blessing because it was prime wood, not cast off stuff that I gather from our "burn pile" where everyone drops off tree trimmings, leaves and old wood that they can't see fit to burn themselves. The wood that was dropped off is the size that I use to burn all night so that I am not up and down all night feeding the fireplace.
As I call these wonderful anonymous gifts, "Christmas Magic" simply because they seem to come when you really need it.

None of that kind of happenings have occurred. We did get a wrapped present that looks like a CARE package from a new neighbor. It is wrapped in clear plastic paper and tied with a bow. I can see a jar of peanuts and some hot chocolate mix among other things I can't yet identify. I don't know why she did this. We are not destitute and can easily buy such things for ourselves. There has been no agreement between us to exchange gifts. Maybe I should just be thankful that we were given something instead of another dust collector that older people usually get for Christmas & birthdays.

Wow that is something seems like you were meant to find it.It is a wonderful feeling to get such a nice surprise.Shortly after my grandmother passed I was just getting home and noticed a lovely basket full of cute trinkets of things. The note said''To make you smile''I have no idea who sent it but will always remember that act of kindness.I may never know who it was I did try to find out but still haven't a clue, but I guess that doesn't matter. But it is lovely that it was left there at the right time..when I needed a smile most.
