Play it safe this holiday season.

I know we would all like to spend our holidays with our family and/or friends. But, this year the US has been getting hit with wave after wave of severe weather. Flooding in the south; and, ice and snow further north. If the weather is bad in your area; please do not try to travel through it just so you can be with them on either Christmas or New Years. Your friends and family would rather you were safe and talking on the phone, texting, chatting, IMing, etc. than have to try to get to your side in a hospital or having to go to your funeral. Plus, when you go out in severe weather you are not just risking your life. You are also risking the lives of the police, fire, search and rescue teams, etc. Poor visability, freezing temperatures, slippery roads, drifting snow, flooding, and high winds can change a short trip into a deadly nightmare. Minor inconveniences can become serious problems. People's cars get flat tires, overheat, break belts every day and usually these are easy to take care of; but, in severe freezing weather these can become deadly. So, please play it safe this year and wait until the storm has passed before you go out to visit friends and family. Happy Holidays to all.

Hi, speakeasy! I fully agree. It is better to be safe and be able to see your family when the storm has passed. I know i would rather see my family alive and well, versus having to go see them in the hospital or worse. I want them to be safe, and you never know waiting could save someone else's life. Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you also. I am sure we would all like to make it home safely; but, sometimes people become so focused on the goal that they take risks they shouldn't. If I can remind even one person to check the weather first before setting out, this post will be worth it. We have recently had entire states close their road systems due to these severe storms and people still went out and risked their lives and the lives of others. I do not know if they didn't check or didn't believe how bad it would be.

Agreed. I live in the south and have seen some of the flooding, but i have seen where the weather has been very bad up north. My husband has to travel with his work. The company he works for always advises drivers to stop if the conditions are dangerous.
