Okay, I confess, I have made a lot of comments about my daughter's horrible chili and how the critters wouldn't even touch it when I took it down to the area where we dump our tree trimmings etc. We've all had a really good laugh about it. Weeeellllll, I had a craving for chili, so I started a batch on Monday night. I soaked the dried beans, broke out the crock pot and started the batch. Of course my boyfriend loves chili too, so we sat down last night and pigged out! It was sooo good, and he did something that he doesn't usually do, he had seconds.
That was about 7 p.m. Not only did we have the chili but of course we had to have corn bread too. My BF had thirds on the corn bread...It was a name brand corn bread mix that I hadn't tried, but it was really good. After dinner we kicked back to watch some television. Around 10 p.m. my BF decided to go home and crawl in bed, he wasn't feeling too good (I felt fine by the way). Then about 15 minutes later I got a call from him, he was writhing in pain. I dropped everything and raced through the dark to get to my BF's side. He lives across the street and two doors up from me. We live in the country and don't have street lights so I was racing to his house in total darkness as I didn't even stop to take time to find a flashlight to light my way to his house.
I entered the house and heard the moaning and crying, and raced to his side. He was in absolute misery!!! I wanted to call the ambulance but he refused. My mind was racing, what if I had poisoned him? Could I survive the shame, could I survive in prison? I told him to get his pants on while I went and got the car to race him to the hospital. He was waiting by the road when I backed out of my driveway. He crawled in and we started the hour drive to the local Emergency room. He moaned and writhed with pain the entire trip. It was horrible to hear!!!! I felt sooooo guilty!
We got to the ER and they took him in immediately. He was safely ensconced in a bed and they started an IV and gave him morphine. He promptly became very groggy and the doctor proceeded to examine him. I warned the doctor about the chili as he was pressing on my BF's abdomen. Of course the doctor backed off for some reason. Anyway after the exam my BF went to sleep.
Needless to say, we were there all night. I am not ashamed to say that the effects of the chili caught up with me too, and there was a very black cloud from the flatulence caused by chili. The nurses took my BF's vital signs from outside the room...and they also walked on the other side of the hall from where the entrance to the room was.
We finally got out of the ER at 8 a.m., 13 hours after the chili, and 9 hours after we arrived there. My BF is okay for the moment...now are you ready for the rest of the story? He is passing kidney stones and it wasn't my chili! LOL. I know the kidney stones aren't funny, but it's rather funny that the thought of the chili and the fact that his system decided to move one of the stones down the kidney within such a short period of time, plus my poking fun at my daughter's inedible chili struck me as so coincidental and rather humorous.
My BF is going to be scheduled to have the kidney stones broken up by ultra sound in about two weeks. Until then he is on a heavy duty pain killer and something to help him try to pass the stone. The one he is trying to pass is about 8 mm in size which is about 1/4 to 3/8 inches in diameter and the doctor says that it isn't round like most stones, it is oblong which is going to make it a pisser to pass. Pardon the pun! Anyhow, my BF is home and resting comfortably...although I am about ready to kill him because he had a referral to a urologist back in August and didn't do anything about it. Why see the urologist when you know about the problem when you can keep your girlfriend up all night with your misery?
How was your night????

OMG, I love your story, my night was not as dramatic as yours, I basically eat, hanged out with friends, then sleep. I hope that your boyfriend gets better. Happy holidays and mylotting to you both!

Happy Holidays to you! I thought of telling about the chili this morning when we were eating breakfast. I ran it past my BF and he got a big kick out of the idea, especially since I had written so much about my daughter's horrible chili that the wild animals wouldn't even eat.

OK...now that I have spent the last five minutes falling out of my chair laughing at your story, I am glad to hear that your BF is going to be ok (not that he is truly OK with those kidney stones by any means, but at least you know he doesn't have salmonella or ecoli or anything). I can only imagine how you felt while you were rushing him to the hospital. Maybe you should just cook burgers next time?? LOL Just kidding...
I am just glad that he wasn't having an allergic reaction to something...

oh loverbear it is sort of funny and scary too. but Am glad
it was not your chili however. boy they tell me the pain from
passsing a kidney stone is unbearable. never had
that but had a gall bladder attack with two big oblong gall stones, boy did that
hurt and to think I tried to work with this but had to give in and call the doctor. he had me take some tests and they called me at work. Mrs.Hatley you have two very large gall stones so they must come out.it took ten days to get the paperwork and the surgeon that my insurance called for. the surgery was a bandaid surgery and only stayed in over night, was home the next day.
Hope you read him out a bit for not going to the urologist back in August, men are so awful when it comes to their own health. My hubby would want me to go to a doctor for every little thing but something that needed care for him, he would put off. men are sometimes all alike. lol lol

Wow. I have a story kinda like that except my husband, who was my boyfriend at the time, was dealing with a nasty cold and I was making cheeseburger mac. I cooked everything thoroughly and we ate it. Not too long after he tossed it up really bad and I thought it was my cooking but come to find out when I took him to the hospital, he had bronchitis. I hope your boyfriend will be ok. He should have gone to the urologist for the kidney stones when he found out about it but it is good that he is scheduled to get them broken up. My mom and little brother had to go through the same procedure two years ago.

My BF put off contacting the urologist because he knew that they would laser the stones and he wasn't looking forward to the treatment. It turns out that when he had the treatment a few years ago, they were supposed to put him to sleep and didn't...and when they had to go in and pull out the stone it was the same thing. The urologist here about had a fit in the middle of the hospital!!! At least the doctor assured my BF that when they do the procedure my BF will be under general anesthesia and not fully awake to feel every blast of the laser. As my BF said, without the general anesthesia, it was like someone was smacking his back hard with a hammer.
I informed him that as of tonight if he gets a referral to a doctor, I will make contact and make the appointments and there will be NO excuses on his part.
The funny part about the chili is that when my daughter, son in law, two grand daughters, and my son in law's uncle were living with me; my daughter decided to make chili. I TOLD her that she had to soak the dried beans for at least 24 hours before cooking them. She didn't listen and threw all the ingredients into the roaster at the same time. She cooked it for three days and the dried beans never softened up. No one would eat the chili and I finally had to dispose of it in a community common site for burning tree trimmings, cut grass etc. I put it out so that the critters (raccoons, coyotes, bob cats and skunks) could come and munch on it. The critters didn't want any part of it either, so I ended up burying it!
I saw some irony in the fact that I had made chili (yes, I soaked the beans for over 24 hours! LOL) and we ate it and then had to head for the ER. What was even worse is the after effects of chili. All the doctors wanted to push on my BF's abdomen and I warned them repeatedly that we had chili for dinner and if they pushed too hard I wouldn't guarantee the after effects! At one point he did pass wind and the nurse came in to check his vitals and left in a hurry, gasping for air! From then on she checked them at a distance! LOL. He gave my dogs and cats a run for their money.
I am anxious for the laser to return so my BF is out of pain. I am really worried about him, and of course I give him information on controlling pain and he doesn't listen. He took the pain pills on an empty stomach and was complaining that they weren't working...DUH!!! There is nothing to cause the medicine to go through the blood stream as there is nothing for it to bind with. I don't know how many times I've told him to not take the meds on an empty stomach and expect them to work. Even if he were to just take them with a glass of orange juice...Oh well, one day he might listen and actually hear what I am saying!
Have a wonderful Christmas.

Oh the surgeon is going to use lasers to break up the stones? My mom and bro has a different procedure which was Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy for their kidney stones. Either way I hope all goes well. You have a great Christmas too!
