Okay so I haven't read any of the twilight books, just like I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books. But I did like the first movie, I haven't seen the second one yet. I don't think that the characters edward and bella have a realistic romance. I mean if I woke up and the guy I had a crush on was standing over my bed in the middle of the night I might think differently about him.
I do agree that love is blind and there is real love, but human beings are also hard wired with a protection instinct that keeps most people out of danger. That combined with the fact that vampires aren't real and the story is fictitious means to me that their relationship is unrealistic.
It is really an analogy for the love triangle in general. Archetypal phycology would identify each of the characters as a facet of one person's phyche in this case the author's, as such: Bella is the author's sense of self. Edward is the predator or dark man archetype. Jacob is the Animus. Bella's loving of Edward is an indicator of the authors compulsion towards self destructive behavior. Bella's confusion between her feelings towards Edward and her feelings toward Jacob indicate the struggle between the tendancy to self destruct and the instinct to preserve the self in a balanced state.

Wow tawny, I really love your comment and it made me remember my college days in psychology...I totally agree with you here...human and vampires don't really blend much plus the fact that they really don't exist...but the author may have been symbols and may have been pertaining to not real vampires but maybe major differences in two persons in a relationship where in their relationship survived because of LOVE.

I agree that the love triangle can happen. She loved Jacob, but not at all in the way that she loved Edward. But Jacob loved Bella, for a while anyway, as more than a friend. I believe that someone can love you so much that they would die for you. I believe there is love out there like that. I have experienced it. The romance can die if not kept up. The books don't reflect how hard it can be to keep the romance up.

Yes, I totally agree with you there menolly, true love does exist and I believe that's why twilight is such a hot book because the story itself is simple passionate about love. Then there goes the love angle on the side of Jacob and it even put on the spice and all. It is great to know how far love is willing to sacrifice just to save another.
