This is an interesting topic that I just read about. I have never been allergic to any of my pets, but I am assuming that some people might be. The good news is that if you are you don't have to get rid of your pet. Here are eight tips that will help control your pet allergies.
1- Keep your pets out of your bedroom. This is a simple one. Since we spend a lot of time in our bedroom it is a good idea not to keep your pet in the same place you sleep.
2- Use a HEPA air filter.
3- Give your pet a bath at least once a week. Even if you have a bird or turtle you should still find a way to bathe them. The only exception would be fish for obvious reasons.
4- Wash your hands. This is a good idea even if you don't have pet allergies.
5- Don't keep rodents as pets. Rodents tend to be dirty and filthy and have hosts of diseases. Don't invite trouble into your house.
6- Use a vacuum with a HEPA filter.
7- Get rid of your carpets. If you have no carpets then it will be easier to pick up your pets hairs, unless they don't have any.
8- Wash your pet's bedding. Don't forget to wash your bedding also.
Here is another good piece of information. Pet allergies are caused by tiny proteins in pet dander and saliva. These proteins stick to bedding, clothing, and furniture.

Yes, it is sad, but I think these tips may make it tolerable to live with your pet even if you do have allergies. Another tip would be to keep your pet outdoors as much as possible.

No I'm not allergic to any of our pets but one of my best friends is pretty badly I think. We have to little kitties and he happens to be allergic to cats so I hope that he doesn't get to bad of reactions whenever we hang out in my room. We are thinking about possibly moving into a house together with a couple of other friends and my girlfriend and these tips could possibly help him because I wouldn't want to make my girlfriend get rid of our kitty.

I'm glad that you feel these tips might help. Please give them a try before considering moving in with your friend or getting rid of your cat. I am noticing that the people who are commenting that they do have allergies to pets, are usually saying their allergies are due to cats.

I'm allergic to my rats. They don't make me sneeze, but when their little claws scratch me it will puff up and itch badly.
To solve that problem I just make sure I'm wearing sleeves when I play with them.

Rats! That was one of the extra tips in the article I read. No, rodents! Oh well, if you love them, then I'm sure you will be able to deal with a little sniffling. Are you considering trying any of the tips mentioned?

May I ask what kind of pet you are referring too. Most people who have commented have said they have allergies due to cats and rats.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about catching any allergies from the fish. However, I have seen that most people are saying that their allergies are due to their cats. So, please be careful and keep these tips handy in case you do get the cat and find out you do have an allergic reaction to them. If so, please try these tips out or consult your physician before deciding to get rid of the cat.

I'm lucky enough to not have a problem with pets. I have three cats and they are happy healthy creatures. So far things are good. Though years ago, George used to be alergic to animals dogs cats you name it. Of course those tips didn't exist back then nor did those air filters. Though I still think, if it can be afforded one of those would be good to have and use. We just can't aford that kind of thing right now.

Maybe some of the lesser expensive gifts would give some relief. Like not allowing your cats to enter your bedroom. There may be a less expensive items that I haven't listed, which are available at your pet store that you can check out.
