No......not the movies with Eddie Murphy........ I'm referring to the books for children about the veterinarian that actually 'talked' with the animals.
I absolutely LOVED those books when I was younger and I read everyone of them voraciously! I mean, they totally enchanted me to no end! Wben I think about it that's probably one good reason why I love animals so much and I'll always be thankful for that.
I wonder if they're still in print or even if the libraries still carry them. I sure do hope so. I'd hate to think that we lost Dr Dolittle! They were my greatest treasures when I was little!
Were they your favorite books too when you were younger? Do your children read those books now?
Merry Christmas everyone and have a Happy and safe New Year!

Those films with Eddie Murphy was far over-rated, couldn't stand them myself, the star in the show were the animals of course. I often wonder if it would be wonderful if animals could indeed talk and we could hear them, it would certainly help us know when our beloved pets were ill, they would simply tell us. It would take some getting used to though! I don't have children per se, however I myself still like to read children's books, I consider Harry Potter to be children's books which I read. When I was a child I loved Enid Blyton and the Noddy books. I also had the whole Famous Five collection! Happy Christmas dear friend, Wolfie huggles xxx

I know. I'm like you! I'm still a big kid inside too! I love going to Target and checking out the sticker section for kids and will occasionally buy some for myself.
The books that you mentioned I've never heard of before. Are they primarily in
England or the U.S.?
Merry Christmas to you too, my friend!

I really liked those books! I read them to my children, too, when they were little.
Did you ever read Mr. Popper's Penguins? That's another great series and it's also very funny!

Hi, kellyjeane. I have never heard of Dr. Dolittle books before. I only know this by the name of this movie, starring Eddie Murphy. I will have to search for these books so that I can let my kids read them. Thanks for bringing this up! Merry Christmas!

I didn't know there were boooks. I remember in 5th grade our teacher said we were going to watching Dr. Dolittle and everyone was so happy. When he turned it on it turned out to be some white guy who talked to animals. Everyone was disappointed. I don't remember what it was about but it sure didn't have Eddie Murphy in it. Maybe it was based directly from the books.
