Hi, I think Lenovo is a good choice. And it'll also be OK to use HP.

I agree that buying a laptop depends on the user's needs. Price, portability, usability in terms of operating systems, Hard drive capacity, apeed as far as application usage is concerned are for me major considerations before choosing which laptop to purchase. I have been using an Acer Laptop for 3 years and it has been working fine up to now.

For me, it is the one I am using now and it a Dell. I just purchsed it on friday, and I have used Compaq, and Gateway before this one, but so far it is a good computer. Of course, I have only had it a few days, but no problems with it so far. When I purchaed it and got it set up, the first thing I did was put my antivirus on it, so I would be protected. Now, it comes with McAfee, but only for 30 days. I uninstalled it after I put Avast on it. It is just the right size. amd ot jas a big hard drive, with 4 gigs of ram which is the most I have ever had, and it really seems to run much faster. So far, i am glad I bought it, and Windows 7 is a cool OS, much better than Vista. Take care, and happy mylotting.

I've only had one laptop so far: it's an Apple Macbook White, 13". It's the one with the Polycarbonate/plastic shell. I think that while the Operating System and everything else is durable and works great, I think that the polycarbonate casing just isn't good for long-term use. That's why it's great that Apple finally came out with 13" Macbook Pro's in aluminum cases. I think that an ALUMINUM Macbook, by far, is the best machine to walk the earth. However, since you may have a budget to work with, I'll give you my two cents' on the brands I've tried or looked at so far: HP is top-notch in terms of design, as far as I've seen. I hadn't owned one, but I've restored one from a friend's boyfriend's cousin. It's so durable, the laptop was 5 years old, and yet still worked great. The only problem was that the owner had installed a fake copy of Windows, that's why she had problems with it. I installed Ubuntu Linux, and wonder of wonders! It was fast and was running amazingly again! Well-known durable lines are Asus and Toshiba. Toshiba boasts of such longevity, that Japanese and Korean models from the 90's still find themselves sold again as used laptops here in the Philippines. Asus, on the other hand, seems to be a stable machine. I just don't like the eeePC line because the keys on the keyboard feel so flimsy and fake. Boo. :( In terms of a balance between durability and style, I think the current line of Acer, especially the slim Timeline series, ROCKS. I think they were trying to achieve a sturdier version of the Macbook Air, or a slimmer version of the Macbook, and they've succeeded. The only problem is that it's still on Windows, so I'm really saying a BOO here. If they built Acer on a Linux, customized platform, I'd really be salivating to buy one. Heheh. I think Acer's line of netbooks also looks great. In terms of style, durability and afforability, I think Acer strikes the perfect balance. Sony Vaio is great for style, but the price is rather out of reach. Dell bores me, but their colored laptops look interesting. They seem durable too. Lenovo looks great too. MSI is also durable, and they do have nice designs. But I'm really partial to Acer, for reasons stated above. Next to the Mac, I think I'd go for Acer anyday. ;) Hope this helps, Mhelisa! Good luck to your laptop buying! Happy new year!!!

If its sturdiness you seek and price is no issue than i recomend you go for the Panasonic Toughbook..Its made for the U.S. army..and is marvelous.. However if you want a good config nothing can be better than Dell.. And if price is realy an issue and you just want to own a laptop.Isuggest you go for acer..Its good..

I think IBM is still the best, but it is expensive. But its quality is very good and it is durable. I personally think that Dell laptops's price is reasonable and its quality is also good. I love China

usually it difficult to define precisely the real best because it depends for which characteristics a laptop is the best for you and your needs as well!! So i think the best i tried is an alienware laptop..really powerful and fast, graphics really advanced and support all kind of projects from graphics and high power to calculate big amount of dates!!The specs in reality are very important bu the price too..in fact it was not mine unluckly..:)

hi mhel! I have Asus and Hp Compaq...both are my favorite brand when it comes to computer, notebook and laptop. My friend has apple mac and it is amazing. But you should choose something that fit your needs and style. I think choosing the right OS and Internet Browser are important too for you to have a wonderful browsing experience. It is best to make some research for you to see what kind of laptop features you want to use.

I agree with the comment that was made that the best laptop depends upon the user's needs. I recently was in your shoes of needing to purchase a new computer. I chose a laptop for versatility. My main requirements were price, multitasking, surfing the web, and homework assignment. I bough an Acer notebook with WIndows 7. The laptop runs so much faster than my old computer. I love that it is Wifi. Acer works really well for multitasking I can have multiple programs open and it runs great. Unlike when I had a Compaq laptop years ago. I will say that it takes a little bit of time to adjust to Windows 7. Overall, I love Windows 7 operating system. It really is pretty user friendly and has good safety protocols in place to help protect your PC. aireanna18's home page: http://www.xomba.com/user/aireanna
