Is facebook becoming a Group site?

If you look at facebook, my wall is filled with join this and join that... It is ridiculous. I only use the site to contact my friends, kind of like i use myLot. I think people have overrun the what used to be good site with annoying groups that flood your wall. thank you, have a merry christmas
