How Do You Celebrate Christmas?

Do you believe Jesus was born on December 25? Is that part of your celebration of the holiday. Or is it just a time of family and fun for you?

I am a Seventh-Day Adventist Christian, and we celebrate Christmas. We celebrate the spirit of Christmas, like giving and sharing. But we don't believe Jesus was born December 25. It's a Catholic doctrine, and we know that December 25 is not the real birth date of Jesus. It's a birth date of one of their saints, and they converted it to Christmas.

It is my understanding that the beginnings of celebrating of the 25th of December as the birth of Christ had to do with countering the pagan celebrations of winter that were drawing the participation of many Christians.

I agree with the above comments. December 25 is the pagan sun god's birthday. As far as I know, the story goes... the Catholic church wanted to draw the pagans to Christianity. The pagans had elaborate rituals on December 25th. The Catholics thought they couldn't attract the pagans unless they had something exciting in place of the their rituals. So they invented Christmas on the same day and came up with parallels to draw the pagans to Christianity. (i.e. lights on an evergreen tree, etc.) It certainly is something interesting to look up.

Oh, really? That's new to me! Thanks for that... So, they did it for their marketing strategy. It was like Coke thinking of ways how to attract customers from competitor Pepsi? It was like Coke drinking holiday is on March 1, while Pepsi's is on December 25 and becoming more popular than Coke's, so they decided that Coke's drinking holiday be moved to December 25 also to compete evenly?

We have no idea when Jesus was born or the exact date. The only clue is that it was during the time when Caesar Augustus taxed the Roman world, and it could have been anytime and one would have to go and search the records to find out when that occurred. We do celebrate Jesus's birth that day even though HE may have been born in a different month because HE came to earth to save us from our sins and bring light and love and hope to us. So we go to church every Christmas, and afterwards will sing carols. We also exchange gifts just as God gave HIS SON to be a gift to us, and because of the wise men. Oh and our sons and their wives are coming over as well after they attend Mass.

We really enjoyed ourselves. We went to the other church because the lift did not work but now it does so we were able to enjoy Sunday. Next year if my husband is still alive we will be going to the new church that is on floor level and it will be easier to get into. We did miss out on the cookies afterwards but our friends were over on Boxing Day and we sang Christmas carols and Christmas hymns then. So we had an enjoyable time.

I haven't read anything that is about Jesus being born on December 25. I really want to know the real date of Jesus Birth. In our country, we celebrate Christmas. We marked the date as the day Jesus Christ was born. That is the real reason of Christmas for us and not about Santa. During Christmas it is a holiday , mostly start of December 24 many employees and companies are closed, people are with their family , that is why we called it a holiday and time for family and reunions. When you are with family and some relatives of course, it involves fun. Everywhere you see laughter, smiles and of course love in the air.
