What's going to happen in the year 2012?

As I'm sure all know by now the Mayans predicted the world would end in 2012. I think what they meant was that a new world would start in 2012 not the end of the world like everyone thinks. Maybe by then we'll start taking care of the earth and stop destroying it. What do you think? Do you believe it's going to be the end of the world or a nrw beginning for man? Or what do you think?

no....they didn't. Ask a Mayan (yes, there are still plenty of them alive today) and they will probably laugh at you. Tell me, does the world end every year when our calender ends? the mayan calender doesn't predict anything, it simply ends and starts from the beginning again like ours do.
As for all the disaster scenarios predicted, NONE of them are true, there is no scientific basis for any of them, NONE of them. It's all psudeo-science nonsense.

No need to be hostile. You're taking the ending of the world that the Mayans speak of as being too literal. I believe they were speaking of a new beginning for man. Which would be the end of the world as we know it. This has happened many times through history where the world as they knew it came to an end and a new one began. Besides, if we do something to end our ways very quickly there won't be a planet for grandchildrens grandchildren to live on.

Not being hostile, just being fatter-of-fact about this. There are over 250 threads here alone on mylot about this topic and hundreds of thousands of youtube videos, blogs and psudeo-science articles and such on the web,it's all nonsense, even Mayans think it's nonsense. First of all, Mayans never said the world would end! There is a calendar and it ends on a particular date, that is it. If that is considered as end of the world then it shows how illogical it is. If the world has to end it can end any time, even tomorrow, there is no need to wait for a particular date!

Well, did they really tell that after so many years the world is going to end? And you believe it if somebody says that some xyz said that world will end in 2100?
It is like someone stopped doing something due to some reason and others attributed some unknown significance to that act!
If the Mayan Calendar ends on 21st December 2012, do you think it is for only reason that the world will end on that day? There is no other reason plausible for that action?
History proves that Chinese, Sindhu, Buddhists were more learned than Mayans.
If there is any proof other than the Mayan Calendar ending on 21 December 2012, then please mention it. I will check it out.

I think your concept of a New World is good.Though I believe it should start with all of us and this new year itself.Why wait for 2012 for something we can do today?We should all try to put in our bit to have a better world for all of us.We should reject our destructive tendencies and stop the arms race and use nuclear power for better benefit of humanity.

Sometimes things just work a certain and there's no figuring it out. Possibly some thing is going to happen 2012 that will help man to mature and see he needs to change.

I believe that nothing will happen in 2012. The life will continue to be as it is now. I think that it is all just big talk. The worst thing that is going to happen is mass histeria, becaue there are people who believe it with such a conviction that they may cause more problems than mather nature itself
