My computer was invaded by a virus on Christmas Eve day that not only got past my virus protection but disabled it. It's outward form was of one giving a message that my computer was infected and it even started running a scan with some supposed virus protection that I didn't have. Eventually everything was clogged with its pop-ups and I was barely able to even shut the computer off. So for the third time this year my computer is in the local computer store to have viruses removed. This occurred while I was on a site that I go to every day. My sister's computer was also attacked and became useless in the last few days. So watch out a new one is on the loose.

I have decided it was not site specific since a relative got the same thing and he never goes to this site. The site is one that I joined and it provides traffic data to my blogs and I have been going to it every day for at least a year, so it is a safe site.

To be honest, you should have known better. Sites with the fake antivirus stuff that is actually just an animation are always bad news. Avoid anything like that in the future and you should be alright.
Because you got it on christmas eve does not mean it came out on christmas eve, it is probably not a new virus.

Hi, stealthy. People just don't know how to quit don't they!! And we all thought that Christmas was supposed to be a time of happiness. We can't seem to live a day in peace, can't we? Not even on Christ's Birthday. I am glad that you have been able to take your computer to the the computer store. I had another kind of Virus on Christmas, but it was weigh different than the computer virus. It was the Flu Virus. I hope that you and your sister is able to get all of your viruses fixed. I am sorry that this has happened to you both. Hopefully it won't happen again. Thank you for warning us all with a heads up alert.

I've been lucky not to be invaded with such things. I recently installed an anti-virous program after not having one for a while. However I also have my windows secerity on as well. Adjusting those settings on your web browser will help avoid getting virouses. Of course, most of those start as pop-ups.
Though if a computer does that, you can do a cold shutdown. Desktop simply unplug the tower's power cord. Laptop unplug the computer and remove the battery. This invokes a cold shutdown. Not recommended but if your computer is rendered that useless, then that's the only way to shut it off.

Wow, Holy God! So did you got your PC repaired. That's kinda sad that someone's doing it in Christmas Eve. Ah, so what's the site that you go everyday? BTW the website's giving you a message? because it's pretty much impossible(for me) to detect virus in HTML.
If you use Firefox, you should install WOT(Web Of Trust). I got mined installed. It's an add-on for Firefox. It let's you know which site is safe or not through other people's opinion and experience.

My computer was infected too. I was quite surprised because my computer rarely gets infected. And like you I kept getting popups and whatnot. I eventually ran a virus scan which found a few files that were infected and I removed them. Yet when I restarted my computer, it would turn itself off at the windows loading screen. I had no idea what was wrong with other than the virus delete/corrupted some of my system files. Fortunately, I was able to reinstall the system files from scratch and keep all my personal and program files. They are apparently clean since I have had no problems since I did a reinstall. I hope that you and your sister are able to get your computers repaired :)

Wow, someone is busy wreaking havoc and destroying Christmas spirit. Viruses really are a hassle. That happened to me too. And they tell me that I have a lot of virus that it started running some scan. When I used Avast to check my PC, there was no virus. Oh well, thanks for letting me know.
