I can't swim, I did take swimming lessons once but I had trouble just floating. Other people could just lie in the water and float, but I found that if I tried that, I'd just sink In short, I had negative boyancy. I've no idea why this is, but I suppose that it might be due to the fact that I am, (or at least was then) very lean and not carrying very much fat. It's my opinion that someone who can swim is more likely to drown than someone who can't as the non - swimmer will take care not to get in the water in the first place. I might be wrong, but I think that most people who drown are actually swimmers who get into difficulty. Having said that, being able to swim probably saved my fathers life and certainly saved him from spending 5 years in a German prisoner of war camp when he swam off a beach in France to escape capure or worse after the fall of France in 1940.

Yes, I'm sure though, that it was an "interesting" experience that he could have done without.

I learned swimming when I was very young. There was a river in front of my home when I was a kid. My friends and I spented much time playing in the river. So we all learned swimming, but with different postures, haha~ .That's my childhood. It's so sweety whenever I recall!!! The most happiest time in my life.

once when I was a kid I got to choose between two options that were swimming or iceskating. I chose ice skating over swimming and so I was unable to learn it.

Being able to swim is a really important skill. I advise people to learn to swim, and to make sure that their kids learn to swim at a very young age if possible. A lot of drownings can be prevented if people would just take the time to learn to swim, and then become comfortable in the water. In a lot of situations where people drown, they drown because they panic. Learning to swim and taking time to become good at it will greatly improve your chances of surviving if you end up in the water unexpectedly. Here in America, there are places that offer swimming lessons at a very reasonable cost, and I am sure there are some people who will teach you to swim for free. My parents paid for swimming lessons for me when I was very young. I later joined the Boy Scouts when I was old enough, and we learned a lot of swimming skills and water rescue techniques as we earned our merit badges and participated in scouting events. As long as you are in fairly good health, I don't think it is ever too late to learn to swim, but it is much easier to teach someone to swim when they are young kids. I would say that 4-5 years of age is a good time to start teaching your kid to swim, and to be safe around the water.

I can swim but I'm not a good swimmer. If i swim either in beach or pool you can't see my head submerge in water. I have trauma when it comes to water. My dad taught us on how to swim but he let us drown first before he extend his arms to us. I Tried to conquer my fear but i always panic every time i attempt.

I started to learn to swim when I was in our province for vacation. We went to a big piece of rock and my Uncle threw me in the deep sea. I was totally scared and struggled hard just to get above until I discovered, "hey I can float here". I ran out of stamina and my Uncle save me from there. It is an unconventional way for me to learn but I definitely learned :D Now I can swim but not in a professional way. You can float better in saltwater than on swimming pool :D

LOL, I'm also like you I can't swim maybe a little? I can't really swim like others. But I love water-beaches and pools. I can still enjoy even I'm not a good swimmer. Getting along with friends is fun. :)
