I attended a Christmas Cantata yesterday, it was so beautiful and the actors portrayed a beautiful story. After the show, what came in mind was this daunting question of who was behind the star that nearly lead to the death of Our Lord in his infancy. I personally don't think it was God. Looking at the account, it wont be a bad choice to place Satan behind it all. The wise men were astrologers, which God's words is against(Deuteronomy 18:10-12).The star had lead them from the East and instead of taking them to Bethlehem where Jesus was born it took them Jerusalem instead,to Herod the Great, the one man who wanted to kill Jesus. After Herod the Great have dispatched them to seek for the child, then the Star reappears to lead them to Jesus.Thinking about all this makes me think Satan was behind it all. What do you think.......

If we look at the results of the "star" it clearly shows that it must have been an attempt of Satan to kill Jesus before he grew up and fulfilled his important purpose - the reason why he was born on this earth.
I just found an article that has the same thoughts as you have on this subject - you will find a paragraph about the star if you scroll down a bit:

Most people have learned this completely in a different way, so it can be very difficult for them to change the thoughts that they have had since childhood. There are still people who believe that Jesus was born on December 25, even if there is a lot of evidence that he was born in the autumn.

As far as I know its God the Father who is responsible for the STAR to lead the wise men to CHRIST because at that time that JESUS was born there is no electricity yet & transportation that we have now adays so during night time its pretty hard for the KINGS to travel so God sent the STAR for them to see the way & they can continue traveling night & day.

I think they were lead to Herod because Herod has an important role to play in history of Jesus. As far as I know, the bright star-like object is not really a star. It is a group of angels moving. They were sent by God the Father.

I'm not a Christian, but I do read the Bible at least twice.
Well, it didn't mention, but I always keep in mind that was the God Father.
However, your explanation is a nice try :)
But you forgot 1 thing! The single star doesn't relate much to astrology. If you see a very bright star in the sky, and you look at it and wonder where it would lead you too, it's totally OK :)
Moreover, The God Father wants Jesus to sacrifice for the people, so Herod is just his means :)
