Are we living in a banning culture in the UK?

I keep reading in the news and on discussions sites about things that people don't like should be banned. The government has banned things already (even schools and other establishments) such as fox hunting, smoking, playing concers at school, santa's grottos in shopping centres etc. I've seen on discussion boards people discussing things like 'should alcohol, fireworks, fat people, chritsmas etc. be banned? Are we really living in a banning culture?
