Honestly, it was really scare me for a moment after I read the news from CNN. A Nigerian passenger in an attempt to hijack an airplane with explosive device he carried on the luggage. Fortunately, he was deterred by other passengers on board. What is wrong with the nowadays security at the checkpoint? Are we 100% safe after the 9/11 tragedy? Can we trust the federal government and the security guards working in the airport? I might re-consider my next trip by taking a flight.
For real, this news once spread out. The airline might in setback again. Because who gonna take their flight again, again there is another terrorist on board in attempt to blow up the plane. What is your view on it?

Actually I will be flying back to United States on the 31st from the Philippines after my vacation. I am a little scared. Just this morning, I read in Yahoo news about some strict security. Passengers are not allowed do other activities at least 1 hour before landing. This includes using laptop and other devices, standing and getting the luggage in the compartment or not allowing then to have a carryone luggage prior to landing. I might be mistaken with this.

They might doing some precautional scrutiny on everyone of the passengers before landing. But, hope that you all be safe that is priority. Do not worry about the inconvenience. You should be fine. So, how was the trip to Phillipines? Is it fun?

It wasn't a hijacking attempt. A Nigerian man supposedly linked to Al Qaeda tried to blow up a Delta airliner bound for Detroit. There's nothing wrong with the security here; you need to look at the security at the airports of some of the less-developed nations. That's probably how this guy got on the plane without his would-be bomb being detected.

Thanks for the info. I probably didn't read the full - length of news then posted it here. I suppose that as united nations out there, we should cooperate to attack terrorists actions. No matter where they are. We can't just jeopardize other people's life anymore.

I think flight 93 and this one shows They're going to have to find another way. By the time the terrorist started doing their thing on flight 93, people on board had heard about the twin towers and they knew they had tom fight back, and I wish so bad that flight 93 would have landed and I hope it wasn't shot down by us that some have suggested. But this time, the people on board did stop them. We are not going to take it!

Hi, felice369. My take on this is that the government needs to implement a plan where they will have high tech security guards on the planes. These guards will be trained to take upon any dangers and terrorist attacks. They will be equipped to tackle any interference. It should be at least 8 of these guards on the plane. That way, some bad guy can't just come onto the plane starting any trouble at all. Having guards that are trained for attacks like this is very much needed on any plane. I have never rode on a plane and I don't plan to ever to. I am afraid of heights and hijackers. I heard that the bomb burned his legs. Serves him right for trying to do evil unto someone else. I wonder WHOM really sent him to do this job. He claims that it was Al Quieda. But, they were never able to place this with him. He may have been alone on all of this. I am glad that they have captured him. And I am glad that no one was hurt, except for the man that tried to stop him, he got burned. But at least he stuck his neck out for the people on the plane. If this bomb had to have went off then many lives would have been lost. I am glad that someone had the audacity to step up to the plate. As for this terrorist, he needs to be put away for good behind bars! I am just wondering, how many more terrorist are here to plot up another tragic scheme?

Oh my god. Just think of it, make me shrill, and not be able to step on an airplane again. The truth is there were many terrorists out there, probably among us too. We never knew. There is something to do with their extreme religion. Well, they were hypnotized.

My view on this is that as this man was aleady on a suspected terrorist list and his travels in the Yemen were already known to the American authorities why was he still issued with a valid visa to the states. What is the point in your government collating all this information on terrorist suspects and then not monitoring their flight plans. If intelligence is being gathered it should at least be made available to airport security. You are speaking here of a Nigerian linked to Al quedi who had flown through the UK and Amerstam and been in the Yemen.
I would suggest that this is a rare incident these days though and most people will not be deterred from flying because of it, but there should be less complaints when airline security is tightened up.

They need more security on the planes and at the doors. There never can be enough security when it comes to others lifes. The more the better. Also limits on what one can do and cannot do. read before flying and maybe even signed and discussed before flying on a plane. Those that complain just do not understand or maybe have something they want to hide, I think from checkpoint and before intering the plane needs to be double checked by two people in case one overlooks something. I think whenone travels by plane they need to know who they sit by..at least a little..

Well I must say that I have never been on a plane and what happened on this plane scared me somewhat considering that 9/11 is still on our minds .However the fact that they were able to subdue him and preventing him for hurting anyone gave me back some hope that good will always prevail over evil.Great discussion

I think they need to tighten ariport security! It can NEVER be tight enough. People always want to complain, but until something actually happens, they will be sticking their foots in their mouths. And Yeah Im a little worried, but I feel like God is with me, and whenever I feel like my life in in danger, I just pray. I know people feel like prayer doesnt work, but until you are in a situation where there is nothing left to do, prayer may be your only option, and trust and beleieve it will work!
But yeah, Im not too too worried about it. This world is corrupt all together ultimately. So if I die on a plane or walking down the street, I feel like its just fate
