Hubby and i went shopping today to take part of the great boxing day sales that were in our area (we celebrate boxing day here in Canada and it is a statuary holiday yet stores were open!)and guess what? i bought some presents for next Christmas today! Hubby is out of a job and this way, i can get things deeply discounted instead of waiting til December of next year. do you think it is too early to start or do you start now?

Hey cher~ I would thing that if your hubby is out of a job that you wouldn't even thing about going shopping, let alone for next Christmas! Not trying to be mean, but don't you think that you should be thinking about here and now instead of what you might want to do for next Christmas? What if you don't have enough money for things that you need now like food and clothes? I'm just not understanding your way of thinking and I have a strong feeling that alot of others will agree!

its not like i spent a ton of money (far less than i would spend next Christmas) plus we have been given some money for the holidays and rather than spend it frivilously, i spent some on next year.)

I think this is a truly wonderful idea, however there is one snag, one drawback in doing this, well a couple actually which I personally find an issue with buying Christmas presents early, one is finding room for them, another is remembering you have bought them and who for, and when it does come round to next Christmas will you remember where you have put them for safe keeping and will you remember who you got them for, before going out to buy something for someone you already have a present for?

These are valid points wolfie34 as we have the same problem if we bought presents really really early. Specially if you bought rather expensive gifts. When the birthday or Christmas day comes, we often not think of the price of the gift anymore. Even if it was discounted. So sometimes, we end up giving rather expensive gifts to people who don't deserve it.

I would start now, but I am completely shopped out. I think if I looked at things now, I'd buy everything in sight. Next week, I am going to start knitting gifts for next year. I did a bit of this last year, and it helped. I just found a big stash of yarn that I can use, so I should be set.

I didn't get to take advantage of boxing day, but I think it is a wonderful idea, it is never too early to start shopping and it is always wise to get a deal.

I start getting ready for Christmas next year as soon as I am done with Christmas this year and that often means before the big day actualy comes. I have most of next year planned and now I just need to find all the deals that I know will come around at least once this year. I think of it as my way of getting more for my money in life.

It depends on who you are shopping for and how well you know the. Some people like things that are up to the minute fashion changes a lot in a year. But some things are timelesss and can be bought at any time and still be good for a year from now. Just don't forget where you put or hid them. I bought my husband's Christmas present months ago and then forgot where I hid it. I ended up having to go out and buy another one, then the next day I remembered where I put the original one.

I get a head start on things like Christmas cards. I can get the really expensive Christmas cards dirt cheap after Christmas. I place them in a drawer and then I'm happy when Christmas rolls around because I planned the year before. One year I did that with some Christmas decorations. Cute Christmas ducks. On sale for ten dollars, down from twenty-five bucks. I've had them for four years now.

Its never too early to shop for Christmas! I will be buying some sweatshirts to stitch on after the first so I will have presents made for next Christmas... lets see, niece, sister, bro's girl friend, mom, maybe I can find a burnt orange without the UT logo on it and stitch one...

Hi there cher913! What exactly do you celebrate on boxing day? You have a very good strategy. I also do that. Though not as early as you, I do buy some gifts early on especially if I see something that would suit someone and am afraid that it won't be available soon. Sometimes I buy early for Christmas gifts and birthday gifts too.

Its way too early to start now! But, if you got some deals why not? I can understand your thinking and if its available and cheaper then go for it. I don't go shopping after Christmas, I'm still trying to recover from it! I hope that your hubby can find something in 2010 so he can buy you something nice too.

How about the gift receipts? Does it still work a year after? It'll be nice if you knew that the person you're giving a gift to, wouldn't return the gift. I don't think it's too early. I'm just trying to rationalize all the possible hitches as I might run to the stores and pick up a few gifts myself. For other people, for next year I mean...
