Mine shed hairs like crazy. She is a mixed breed and has short-long hairs. In puerto rico there is no actual cold weather.Does the heat have to do with the shedding and how can I help her?

My chihuahuashed shed heer hairs at certain times and for a short period only. I don't know why, but some people say that even though we don't have winters but all animals have their biological clock inside of them. so when their body thinks it's winter, their hair become thick and sleep a lot, even though its always sunny outside ( and when they think its summer they shed their hair to feel cool). Others say they shed their hair to get ready for mating season. Whatever the reason, I try to give her good dog food, and I just accepted the matter as her routines.

Most likely yes, even if you do not have a winter, your dog has two sets of fur coats, when it becomes cooler, you dog will have a thicker amount of fur, but in the summer or hotter months the chihuahua along with all dogs will shed more fur because the coat made for heat is thinner so that the animal does not get as hot. Try using a lint roller, it's harmless, brush your dog's fur, use a deshedding brush if you can find them and buy a shed control shampoo and conditioner for the pet.

Hi lokilla007, Maybe your chihuahua like you said is a mix breed maybe thats the reason why it shed his/her hair. My chihuahua is not like like that all its pure breed I bought in the pet shop. By the way whats the other breed of your chihuahua? chihuahua + ???
