Hey, today is sunday after christmas. I am surfing and designing my pages. At the same time I am watching TCM, a chanel that show old nice movies. Today I hav just watched The wizard from OZ and just now Gone with a wind are starting. I love watching those old movies, nice colored and so nice and friendly. How about You, would you consider a nice old movie instead of the new once?

It would depend on the movie. I will admit that I love classic comedies, I enjoy modern cinema as well but there are always a few favourites that stand the test of time. Though a Christmas without It's a Wonderful Life feels weird, the station that normally plays it put on something else this year, the worst part is because of the moving around visiting friends and all I normally miss most of it anyway but I miss the tradition.

I love watching old movies! Gone with the Wind is a classic that never goes out of style. Then, there are movies with Jane Eyre that are so sad and heartbreaking, yet compelling to watch. All of BBC movies of stories by Jane Austen that have been made into movies are excellent. These movies really take you back in time! I love the fashion of the clothes. The simple elegance of the land.
Thanks for bringing up Heidi! I remember watching that growing up along with Shirley Temple. We were brought up on the classics on the Disney channel. She was one that was prominently featured. Does anyone remember the old (original) Zorro episodes?
It was kind of funny hearing people talk about shows from the 80's since that is the era I grew up. I do not think of those as old-time movies. Even classics like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Mary Poppins were made before the 80's. I prefer the movies from my childhood like Pollyanna, Parent Trap (the original), and classic movies over the more recent movies. I rarely keep up with current movies. I tend to return to favorites if I rent a movie.

Hi yes, I agree with you. Movies from childhood are classics and when you watch them, you kind of go back in time and remember the old times and how fun you had back then. I watch TCM almost every day, keep my eye in the paper to see what they show for the day. I also remember Heidi, but I saw that as a tv serie recorded in germany...lol
I wish you a happy new year and thanks for responding.

I don''t have cable, so generally if I want a movie I'll rent it. It just got to the point where I was paying so much for basic cable and barely watching anything other than the local shows, which I could get without cable. It would be nice to someday have more channels like the TCM, but soon I'll be back to the point where I just do not have the time to watch must television due to working and finishing my Master's degree. I do have the Gone with the Wind movie on VHS and this discussion has been making me want to hook up the vcr to watch that classic movie.

TCM is far the best chanel I would choose for movie watching. They have shown lots of Elvis old movies, John wayn is there sometimes to...judy garland, many more old glamorues actres/actrisses. But it is nice you can go to the local library to find what you like to see.
Happy new year, thanks for responding.

hi anetteh,
Merry Christmas to you!
Yup, I do love watching old movies as it it tells the period where it is the all time favorites. They are interesting to me and I would not mind to trade it to the new ones.,Anyway, be it old or new movies as long as the story plot is awakening and interest me then I would watch them whenever i am not busy..I am also longing to understand old movies as it is the mean where one could relate with the past, the background of the movies the discover the famous actors and actresses during those period and i could make a new comparison between the old and new movies..

I have been a TMC junkie this past week. I watched an Eddie Fisher/Debbie Reynolds one that was my favorite. Have seen too many to remember the name tho! It's where she is mistaken as a baby's mama. Another I watched this week that I love is Heidi. I've never seen it before - I only recorded it because it had Shirley Temple in it and I enjoy her movies. I'm going to make it a habit to look every week to see what I can record, as I am enjoying these so much more than what regular cable has to offer (other than Lifetime and Hallmark! lol).

However, I love TCM, it is the best, since they mix, one time every evening, they do show an newer movie.....I am also a fan of tv series like law and order - Csi etc...anyways, thanks for responding and happy new year.

It depends on the movie. A lot of old movies can be very entertaining. The Wizard of Oz is a classic. And movies like Old Yeller too.
There is an old black and white movie called "Arsenic and Old Lace" that I love. Its so funny.

AMC is another good place to find the older movies. Just before Christmas I found a DVD of old westerns and the wife and I started to watch them last night, there are about twenty movies in this series. We should have a lot of movie watching for the next week or so.

I totally love some old movies, most of the movies are family friendly, I dont have to worry about whether I should allow my children to watch them. I enjoy the jokes of comedies and the fun of old movies, when all swears were not in the movie, when women kept all their clothes on, and men were respectful, I love, love, love old movies.

I love watching old but those are world war I and world II related stories. I like to watch movies that is related to world history...
Some old movies is remind me the old days that happen before. I'm interested knowing what is happening in those days. Like the fall of Hitler, the war in Europe, the war in Asia and other related event...
It's nice to know that you know how to design your own web pages. Have a nice day!

i do feel there are a lot of old and classic movies, and i like them too, though the cosmetic and clothings then are not so good or beautiful as today, but i feel the actors and actress then performmed better. most movies are too classic, and i feel that none can exceed it.

Hi anetteh: Old movies are timeless and some of them you can watch over and over again, especially epics such as Gone with the wind, Ten Commandments, Ben Hur, Alfred Hitchock movies, or even some of the westerns. They are full of pomp and glory of a bygone era and you can just sit back and wallow in the depths of the story.

Although I love both new and old movies, I do prefer old movies. There is something nostalgic about them. My favorites are Gone With the Wind, Dr. Zhivago, It's a Wonderful Life and The Wizard of Oz.

In my opinion many of the new movies have scripts ,in most of the cases, that develop concepts from old movies. An so many other new movies are just remakes of old ones. I think that the lack of fresh, innovative and really original ideas make the screenwriters use the same plots again and again.

Yes, the night before Christmas TCM was showing Meet Me in St. Louis, with Judy Garland. I love that old movie. And I can remember a lot of the songs too. When I was a kid, my parents wouldn't let us watch any other movie besides G movies. So they rented us a lot of old movies because they didn't have anything objectionable in them. And Meet Me in St. Louis was one of my favorites.

I caught part of Wizard of Oz while I was sitting in my BF's hospital room. I thought to myself that I do need to buy the movie. I love some of the oldies: Arsenic and Old Lace, Phantom of the Opera, Miracle on 34th Street (32nd? gee the brain quit when my BF was admitted to the hospital last night) and several others. While some people think that the old movies are boring, you need to look at what went into making the movies and what the studios did to train the stars how to act and conduct themselves in public. Stars of that era were role models and knew what they could and couldn't do. If they did the wrong thing, they were removed from their contracts.
I love both some of the newer movies for their special effects and computerization and I also love the oldies. I'm not a big fan of the horrible killer, slasher, bomb em, crash em movies.

I grew up on the 'old' movies and yes, in a heartbeat! Even the old black & whites are worth the seeing again and again..Seems like alot of the newer moviess, to me, are little more than redo's of the old stuff with modern popular stars in them.
Enjoy!
