Does anyone have any special plans for New Year's Eve for this year? Us, we are doing a version of the same thing that we've been doing for the past several years. We will be going out to eat dinner at a rib restaurant and then we might go to my mother's house to have a few drinks and to play cards. Other than that, we don't have any really special plans for what we will be doing. Since we've got two small children and neither of us like to go out to bars, we are somewhat limited on what we will do to bring in the New Year.
Please share what you are going to do to bring in the new year.

My auntie has invited the family to her house to celebrate New Year. She usually has sparkling grape juice, little meat and cheese and veggies trays put together. We sit around and talk about things. We watch movies and I think last year we did tune in to one of the New Year's specials. So pretty much it will be the same every year, family togetherness at my aunt's lol.

I think that family togetherness is very important and I too couldn't think of any people in this world that I'd like to spend the coming of a new year with than my family.

It has been quite a few years now... probably 6 or 7... since I went to a New Year's Eve party. What I do is prepare a lot of different finger foods and appetizers and I have a buffet meal at home that is set out in the early evening and I just refresh things as the night goes on. My daughters love this because I try to have things that each of them likes and then of course there are drinks and desserts and such. We listen to music, sometimes even jump up and dance (LOL) and catch a countdown on tv. Nothing exciting or particularly special but it's always nice, just the same. Happy New Year to you!

It is great to hear that you have a tradition that you share with your family for New Year's Eve. Hope you have a great one.

We don't do much either for the same reason we have small kids. And most of the events on NYE are obviously too late for kids and those that are geared tward kids are for bigger kids and are not cheap enough for us to want to attend.
Typically we'd either go to the IL"s and hang out there for a few hours/ but never staying til midnight. OR We have a bottle of Asti at home and tons of finger foods to split w/ the family of course while watching some of the countdowns til they get boring anways ;0)
But this year Dh is scheduled to work. So that's no big deal as it's a 1.5x day + 8 hr holiday and we need the money. And he had Christmas off and that's more of an important holiday to pend with the kids than New Years.

And honestly one has to do what one has to do to keep afloat holiday or not. But Christmas is more important than new years as far as spending it with family. I'm glad being a night shifter it works out for you to get the pay & see your kids open gifts! Hubby only works nights because that's how his job works they spend so much time on one shift & one end of the week. We'll see how the new rotation works every 3mo from night to days.... only thing he'll be on days during the busy season for my work wich will be great but he'll spend summer on night shift
Hubby always calls it "ameture night" when it comes to drinking & it's better spent at home!

You are absolutely right about which holiday is more important to spend with your children. When I worked at the hospital, I had to work either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day and also either New Year's Eve or New Year's Day. I worked the night shift so I would work Christmas Eve so I could see my daughter wake up to her gifts from Santa and I would work New Year's Day because the holiday wasn't nearly as important to me, but I still did get the time and a half.

Are you planning on proposing to her? If you are, I hope that the answer is yes and that you and her will have a long and happy life together. Happy early New Year.

Oh gosh, I don't think we really have any plans for New Year's Eve! I am assuming we'll be doing what we do every night - hee hee - only so much we can do with a newborn - especially when we're not bringing him into public places as much. I will say, the next day (on New Year's Day), we will be going to my parents for breakfast for traditional Japanese New Year's Day food my mom makes - which is what we do every year. I've got to learn to make this stuff!

I want to come and eat with you for breakfast. That sounds like a lot of fun. I know completely what you mean about what you are able to do with a newborn, my daughter was only four weeks old the first time that she went through a New Year's Eve and day.

it has been my duty to cook and prepare food for occasion. so the usual thing, i'll prepare the food, i love doing it single handedly. i'll set the table. then at 12 o'clock i'll call everybody in the house to gather together in the table and share the food together, greet each other and then have some fun, play, a ritual around the house, the shaking of coins inside my pocket, then i'll start the engine of the car, make some noise buy buzzing.
i like doing all those...

That sounds like a very neat tradition to have. It may also be something that I will adopt for our family as well in the future. Thank you very much for sharing your plans.

Happy New Year to you as well drakesuyat. As I've mentioned to another person, we've never used any fireworks at New Years, but we do have some left from earlier in the year and we might just light them up.

Welcoming in the New Year together is what we will be doing as well. The fireworks sound like they could be a lot of fun. We've never done fireworks for New Years, but we still have some left from Independence Day, so we might just break them out for New Years.

I realy don't have any. I think I will stay at home and avoid all the drunk drivers! If I do drink anything it will be at home and no driving anywhere for me. I used to celebrate it but in this economy today it is just too hard today to do anything. Well Happy New Year to you and yours!

You've mentioned here the main reason that we really don't go anywhere for the New Year. We don't want to have to deal with all of the drunk drivers. Both my husband and I like to drink, but we never do it when we are away from home.

That sounds like a lot of fun. I think it would be neat to have a sleep over for some of my daughter's friends for New Years, but she is still a little bit too young. I will definitely have to keep this in mind for the future though.

I will be ringing in the New Year by watching The Rockin Eve show on tv. My husband and I will be having junk food that night (chips, pizza and little smokies). We used to go bowling, but this year we decided not to because last year we had almost gotten hit by a drunk driver. Ever since I get scared. I am hoping that my husband and I will break out the board games.

We typically play cards instead of board games, but it is a lot of fun none the less. Hope you have a good time ringing in the New Year.

My wife and I will be doing something a little different this year for New Years Eve. We are going to Myrtle Beach, SC with the church youth group to something called the Big God Conference and they have a big New Year's Eve celebration at the end of their service that night. It's going to be awesome to get away from everything for a few days with some great friends at the beach and get to hear some awesome music!

That sounds like a lot of fun, I wish that my husband and I were able to do something like that. I used to be very involved in youth group when I was in school and some of the things that I did with them are some of my favorite memories.

I will visit my parents house then I will go visit some place with them and my family. In the night, I will have dinner with them in the beach and spend a lot of time with them. It will be very good to spend my time with my family in the end of 2009.

we generally have a new year eve's service at our church and while it used to go to midnight, it doesnt anymore. it only goes til 8 (starting at 6) then we go to a friends house (she has a big house and invites most of the church people over) and stay til midnight but this year, since i am having thyroid issues, i may just stay home!

hi dorannmwin my son is going to come visit me next thursday which will be the night before New Years day. He had such a
time getting here to see me Christmas day as he had to hunt
for a place that was open so he cou ld get bus fare change, then he found the buses were only running every hour. so he said he will come the day before then he wont run into those problems. he is only about three miles from where i am. We will probably just talk and mess around on the computer as theres nothing exciting going on here in Gold crest a retirement center, most will be off for New Years eve and New Years day, and our food will be the picnic sort of stuff.

I think the last time that I went to a loud, messy New Year's party was ten years ago when I was 19 years old. It was a lot of fun, but it is also something that I have grown out of since then.

I dont really have any new years plans for this year since we are actually going on vacation and have an early flight so I doubt we are going to do anything. I am just going to stay home and invite a friend watch a few movies before we go on vacation and that will pretty much be it since I wont feel like going out anywhere but if we werent leaving I might of gone somewhere.
