Do things happen for a reason?

Is this something you believe and if so why? Has something happened to you that made you understand why certain things had to happen to get to the stage you are now?
The reason I am asking this is because it is something I believe, and as I have recently been made redundant, I believe that although at the moment it is not a good thing, in the long run, it will open another door in my life and take me on another journey.
What are your thoughts?

I think its a pretty controversial question because there are some people who believe for a reason and there are people who think that your actions determine your destiny. I agree with both schools of thought but cannot make the comments. Because at certain time I think that everything happens for a reason and on the other hand I thought otherwise at numerous times.

everything happens for a reason, trying to tell you that that wasnt part of your path that you are meant to live for whatever is in store for you in the future. just go for the opportunities that you are interesting in, and if it works out for you, then it is meant to be and you should continue forward in that direction toward better things in the future.

There are some things that happen that we have no control over - weather for instance. There are things that we don't see coming, but when we go back and analyze the situation we realize why it happened and what our part was. If the event involves people, there's a reason the event happened.

Yes I believe in it, but then there are times when I question myself and God in general as well, that why it has to be me!!!
But one thing thats from my life is that whenever I have to loose something it was replaced with something better then I have dreamt about.
nature has its own way of doing things and we are not aware of it but thats always for good.

I believe that things do happen for a reason, although we might not understand them immediately. It is also a great coping mechanism, as we realize that we cannot control everything.

Hi, pablina. My life is based on nothing but this. Every good and bad thing in my life has happened for a reason. That is why I had to experience joys and hardships so that I can begin to appreciate all of the blessings that God has bestowed upon me and my life. I would fret about it, but as I have gotten to thinking, my life is based on what God has predestined for me, not what I want. It was meant for me to go through what I went through.

Absolutely things happen for a reason. As I've gotten older I realize this more and more. Of course as I've gotten older I can see the whole picture better.
When I do review the past I see that things that I originally thought were a bad experience really played a crucial part in my life. If I had a choice to not experience those things I would not change anything.
I'm starting to believe the bad things actually happen so that we can learn how to tap into the better things easier. They leave an impression on our memory and force us to be more creative and resourceful in resolving situations and problems.
Sometimes the things we call "bad" change and we actually start to remember them as good things or necessary happenings.
So this is a great discussion you've started and I can't wait to read the other responses.

According to GOD Almighty, YES. Everything works toward the glory of GOD the Father. Whether its good, bad, sad or happy GOD's REASONING is something WE as his children can't understand but, I trust HIM 1000% over what any "man" can tell/ promise me. Happy Holidays & MyLotting

I believe they are things that happen for a reason, because life is to short to learn how to make the right decission everytime. I was out of money, gas for my truck, and had no money to make ends meet. My husband and I decided to go to a friends house on Christmas night, even though neither one of us was really feeling up to it. We went anyway, and got food sent home, and got 150.00 he owed me for a sled I sold to him, and was able to get everything I needed for my family. I started believing, maybe something good does come from Christmas time.

I had this discussion earlier with someone. I firmly believe everything happens for a reason. There is no such thing as an accident. And all that happens does happen for the best.
you are redundant now, but maybe in the future you will have a better job. now you have time on your hands you can use that productively if you so wished.
its about looking at things positively, rather than looking looking at the negative aspect of an incident, one must think positively and make the most of any situation....this way I am happier in any circumstance.

hi, pablina!
yes, i believe that things happen for a reason, a good reason. if you would only look back on the things that have happened to you in the past and at the time you felt like it was the end of the world for you, you'd realize that yes, that thing happened because there was a better thing in store for you.
it happened to me once. i lost my job and at first i didn't want to accept it, didn't want my family to know because i was the breadwinner. so what i would do was after applying for another job, i would stroll in the park or window-shop until it was time for me to go home (the usual time i would back when i still had work). fortunately it took me only two weeks to find another job, and i just surprised my family about it.
don;t worry, everything will turn out for the better for you.
smile!

I believe most things happen for a reason. If you look closely you can see that most things happen as the result of something that mankind either does that they shouldn't or doesn't do something they should. We have a lot more control over our lives than most people would like to believe. Any time you make a mistake sooner or later it will cause a problem either for you or someone around you. On the other hand any time you do something right ity will produce a good result somewhere down the line.
Take a close look at Washington DC. The things that people in Government do is our biggest producer of our personal problems. The sad part is we must learn to live with the problems they produce because it isn't within our power to fix them.

I believe that things happen for a reason, and when I look at my life I can see that many of the so-called bad things turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
One of my ex-boyfriends and I had had a long distanse relationship for a while, and when we finally decided to move in together, I applied at a school close to his home, and I got accepted. Then he broke up with me. It was too late to change my application, so I had to move to the other end of the country anyway. I found an apartment in that town, and my neighbour I became very close friends. She is one of the best friends that I have ever had and I know I wouldn't have met her if I hadn't been forced to move to that town.
I found a new boyfriend I was very happy. When we had been together for 6 year he also broke up with me, and I was devastated again. Two months later I met my husband, and our relationship is much better than the relationship I had with my ex. If he hadn't broken up with me I wouldn't have found the kind of happiness that I have found today. I thought that it was the end of the world when my ex left me, but now I feel that it happened for a reason.
The same thing has happened with my jobs. In 2004 I was fired and I was very unhappy and worried about the future, a few months later I found a fantastic job. Actually it was the best job that I have ever had. I had some great co-workers, and my job was really interesting and challenging. I am very happy that I was fired from the other job, otherwise I would have stayed there, and I would have missed out on the fantastic job that I found.

hi pablina,
I do agree with your thoughts about the nature of things that happened in our life.Sometimes,it's the way of life even though we don't understand in the beginning but when the times comes,we would have figure it out then.
From what i understand from your writings,it seems things are not going smoothly right now.Just remember ,be patience,be optimistic & have faith in yourself, somehow you'll pull through and see there's another better road ahead awaiting you.
Just try to learn from things that happened today & be prepare for tomorrow.
cheers,
david tay
