I wish I could make a point of this without getting kicked off the site.

I want to respond to a discussion.. And for all the discussions I come across that are similar, or the same. I want to copy and paste my response from the first discussion I responded to. Especially the opinion discussions. Just because I have come across so many topics that are exactly the same.. Which makes it incredibly difficult to search through for things that you haven't already responded to. Are we just losing ideas of things to discuss, or are people copying topic ideas from others? .. Or both?!

Yes, people do both of these things. Some people even copy and paste other's responses and discussions and pass them off as their own. MyLot takes a very dim view of plagiarism, and, while I think it's a good idea of yours to get a point across, I think you're right in that you'd probably be banned. I think you probably need to make some friend requests to some of the more established members who do put up interesting discussions, and then you'll have no trouble finding stuff to respond to.

Maybe you are not looking in all the right places? There are many discussions that are NOT all similar. From the Guidelines: "Don't Post the same response to different discussions even if the discussions are related or similar. This type of activity will more than likely harm your reputation rating." "Do Make sure you search for existing topics before starting new discussions." Therefore you should not copy/paste your response to multiple discussions but you should report similar topics as they are a violation of the Guielines. : http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx

Thanks, captain. Obviously I'm not going to do it. Hence the topic headline.. "wish I could make a point without getting kicked off the site" I truly do not see that half the guidelines on the site are followed. There's hundreds of repeat topics on here.. That are still here and reporting them only gets you so far.

But inspite of the guidelines, how do we know if our discussion had been discussed already? Is there an existing archives that we can check, before bringing up a new discussion? I think most discussions just come simultaneously, and we don't realize that the topic must have been discussed already. So, what do we do? What are the suggestions? Especially from the myLotters who have been here for a longer time than the new ones.

At the top right of EVERY page there is the searchbar. Before starting a new topic insert a word or some words of your new topic then highlight 'discussions'. If there are already discussions regarding your topic they will appear. Try it a few times altering the words if it does not appear immediately. When you are sure that it is a new topic then go ahead and post it.

katisaurus well I am a bit ticked off as I and a lot of other my lotters do not copy from anyone, and there are just so many topics in the world and you can make a myraid of discussions on a topic from many many different viewpoints so they are not at all alike. one person may make a discussion on teachers and their salaries while I may make a discussion on a particular teacher who helped me to make something of myself, now these are not at all the same, the only common thing is teacher, but that is all I did not steal a damn thing from the person bewailing teachers salaries at all. our discussions were comp;letely different. if mine had been simliar it would probably have been deleted. you do us a great injustice so browse first before you growse as there are alot of discussions not at all alike.

I get what you're saying. But that's not what I'm getting at. I'm pointing at discussions that are about things like tv shows.. Like when American Idol rolls around (and I'm just using it as an example) That people will constantly post and post the same ideas. Like "who's your favourite idol this year" and blah blah. THATS what I'm getting it. So don't get your panties in a wad. Nowhere in any way am I saying that EVERYONE does it.

Yes, there seems to be discussions that are very similar. One of the guideline mentioned that similar discussions will be removed. But I have 0 idea how to determine which will be removed and I don't really like it if I spend time answering the topic only to find out that they have removed it because it is similar to another topic. Thus, in the end, I avoided those topics.

Each discussion has a UNIQUE number assigned to it the very second that it is posted. This discussion is number 2214492 as you can see in your browser. If you find topics that are similar/identical, the one with the lower number would have been posted first

Ah... that may be correct, but how are we to know which one is the ORIGINAL discussion? Two similar discussions may be make at the same time, or in one or two minutes difference, depending on the speed of typing for the author... Mylot cannot delete discussions like that. :(

I think you don't have enough interests picked. I don't see that many repeat post these days. I know a year back it was crazy around here. But,many of the sob's got deleted for good or just left. try adding many new interests and you will have plenty to respond to.

I actually don't think that any discussions can be the exact same thing, unless they copy and paste. There are may discussions related to similar things here in myLot, but none of them is exactly the same, so myLot shouldn't delete discussions just because they are related to the same topic. For example, one discussion may be about which brand of cat food is the best for his specific type of pet, and another discussion may be on the best brand of cat food for cats in general. do you get what I mean? And there is also price, quality, packaging and other things to put into mind when you look at the similarities and differences of a discussion.
