Are you terrible at explaining things?

I Am! I was just responding to a friend's discussion about rook, and I was trying to explain the game of Spades, but I am just terrible at explaining. I hope I was clear enough, but to be honest I'd have to be playing a game of spades to explain better! I think part of the problem with me and being so bad at explaining things is that I don't always fully understand the thing I am trying to explain. I've always turned to someone else who knows what I mean to explain things for me, My husband has done a lot of explaining or clarifying for me. It's gotten me into a bit of a mess before . I've gotten people angry too! I feel embarrassed about it, but I usually just get over it, or try to explain it better next time! So are you bad at explaining things? Or are you the one who explains? Are you like a dictionary?

Hi cowgirl First I want to say that you did fine. I got the general ideal of spades. So don't worry too much about it girl...LOL Im not good at explaining things at all. Sometimes I think I put too much detail on things and leave out the most important things. Like giving directions I just tell left and right. As where my hubby will give landmarks..LOL Keep smiling.

Oh yea, the familiar "So what was I saying again?" I think sometimes my mouth runs differently then my brain. I might say something but be thinking something totally different, so I'll need someone to tell me what I was saying. It helps if I am able to get out what I am thinking and then get back to whatever I was saying.

Oh yeah that sounds so familiar..LOL I was telling my sons girlfriend the other day how to make something. In the middle of me telling her I just stopped and said..What was the thing I told you...She started laughing and I don't think we ever did get to the finish results..lol

Oh yea, I am the queen of starting to explain something and then the thing I am trying to explain make me think of something that may not even be on subeject so i get sidetracked and start talking about something else! Happens to me all the time! You don't know how many times I've been asked "what does that have to do with anything?" by my hubby alone! lol!

I am pretty decent at explaining things ,I guess its form my time as a teacher. The ironic thing is that I wasnt good when I was a teacher butthen I got better when I had stopeed teaching and I realise what I should have tried .Now when I am explaining things I dont use a lot of big words in fact I am good at breaking down to simple terms

That seems to be the way it goes, your not good at something until you don't necessarily need to be good at it! lol! Well I guess it's great you can now explain things better and in simpler terms. It seems that the simpler it is the easier it is for everyone to understand and so no feelings are hurt or confusion had!

Hi alilin28, I'm sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. It's completely my fault for overwhelming myself. I am sure it's more difficult to explain yourself in a different language, I know I'd be lost to explain myself if I were to speak a different language or write a different language then my native english. I've heard English is the hardest to learn with so much slang, and words like their there and they're. Well I wish you all the best, have a wonderful and lovely day!

Hi there! I am terrible at explaining things too! The more detailed it is, the worse. However, some people call me a dictionary... not because i'm good at explaining stuff because CLEARLY i'm not but because i'm hard to understand... sort of like a dictionary i suppose LOL. In fact, i bet me trying to explain how bad i am at explaining stuff is already confusing enough already!

Maybe because I easily confuse (myself and others) but I understood you perfectly ( I think! ). Well I am definitely not a dictionary myself, lol, which i should have said in my discussion. Though I like your idea of a dictionary because your so hard to understand at times, people NEED a dictionary. I am sure many people feel the same way about me too! I guess it's our charm!

ROFL yep, it's our charm and it's our specialty to confuse people. See, if we don't confuse people then no one will be confused and they won't ask others to re-explain to them and they wouldn't need a dictionary so... we play such an important role in society! We're allowing good explainers and dictionaries to good use! (Okay, i MIGHT be exaggerating a tiny bit) ;)

I am horrible at trying to explain things of any nature. I tend to overthink what I am trying to say and it comes out all screwed up. I am also dislexit, so everytime I read street signs, I read them bacwards and no one can understand what I'm trying to say. It actually gets really irritating at times and I get mad when people start picking on me about it, but most of the time, I try to just laugh it off because they don't understand.

As long as you understand right? Well I understood you perfectly! I used to think things through before talking, and that would help me, but it seems to do the opposite for you as you over think... hmm... I think and maybe over think but always to the point that I feel comfortable with the wording of what I want to say.

I'll say I am! Sometimes I get my point across without any problem, but other times I'm not so lucky. One instance was on here not too long ago. I was trying to explain how menstrual cycles work, at least their days anyway. But when I reread my response not only was it not helpful, but it was confusing as well! I was amazed that the one that had asked the question was able to figure it out from what I had said, because I for one couldn't and here I'm the one that explained it! Sheesh! LOL Oh well, I guess the most important thing is, is that they got it, even if I didn't. Happy mylotting! PS I didn't confuse you with my explanation, did I? LOL

No you didn't, but I know what you mean about confusing yourself when trying to explain things. Though admittedly, the menstrual cycle is complex and something I don't fully understand myself, and I'm a girl.

I always worry about the way I explain things. I think that makes me even worse about it because I try to go into to much detail..lol. Sometimes it's easier just to show someone something like that.

I find that I just have the hardest time explaining things now, and before I didn't. I'm not sure why I have such trouble explaining things, but I trip over words and second guess myself sometimes as well, and I know that's not good. Have a wonderful day.

Yes, I am bad at explaining. At least it seems like my friend always have to stop me from explaining things my way and sort of guide me by asking me questions about what I want to explain. To me, explaining something is a way to make communication with people. Thus, clear cut is not something I really enjoy because it will ends the conversation very quickly. However, recently I noticed that my friends no longer have that kind of time to waste and thus, nowadays, I just cut short the whole scenario and just straight to the main point (and all the interesting parts are cut off totally)

Hello warvial, How are you? I'm sorry it's taken so long for me to get back to you, I've been overwhelming myself lately here, and am just now getting back to my responses. I've really got to work on a way not to overwhelm myself. But to the discussion and your response. I find that it's easier to explain things in length, I used to be able to explain things quite clearly in length or in moderation, but now I find myself tripping over my own tongue. Sad though that this world is moving so fast paced and we can't find time to explain things in the leisure we'd like, with the added bonus of the humor or amusement that fits and goes with the story or scenario one is describing. Have a wonderful day, and mylotting!

Yes, it's hard to think of the right way to explain something in so few words, or so quickly. I find it makes me feel worse when it's hard for me to explain something. I used to not have much trouble at all, but now I find I have more trouble. Maybe if I were to pay more attention, I find that I don't pay as much attention as I used to.
