How can I help?

How can I help mylot friends increase their star ratings? It is very sad to see some of them with low ratings even after having a sack full of postings. They have been here for quite sometime giving valuable discussions, inputs and guiding others. Is there any other way other than giving positive ratings to the discussions and responses?

I welcome this discussion very much as I am languishing with my 9 for more than one year.No amount of participation is not bringing back my bright blue 10.I just gave up and doing things without any expectations.

Yes I understand your feelings. There may be some kind of technical problems in the system I think. I am not sure but I am trying to find out. Let us keep our fingers crossed. Things will turn brighter.

Hi Bala, Count me in…LOL…and meapas, I really don’t know how to increase my ratings or how other people who have only about a thousand discussions (even less) get star ratings of 10! I think rating other’s discussions might be of some help but most of the time, I do forget to rate discussions…I am actually not a very rating person. Do you think rating others will help my own rating go up?

hi meapas in the guidelines I think it is that mylot admins suggests that we always rate each other as it helps all mylotters and I think a lot of us do not do this often enough. I rate positive to every one and anyone who insults just gets reported as I do not do minuses.but I do rate everytime I respond to anyones discussion I go ahead and rate all the entries on all the pages of each discussion. it does help they say.

I am also doing this except reporting. But still I don't find any change in the ratings. There may be something else too which we are not able to understand. Well any way I am trying my best.

I am not sure how to get their star ratings up there other than rating them positively either. I guess it may help them by responding more to their discussions and responses also.

Hi meapas, it is nice of you to bring up such a good topic for discussion. It is people like us who have been loyal mylotters and have been here since its inception really feel victimized by this faulty rating system. My red star has been there from time immemorial and could not believe that newbies shoot up to the maximum blue in a short period. I don't understand why many senior mylotters are bypassed and their stars remain stagnant. No amount of positive ratings would see us enjoying the blue star unless something is rectified with this faulty system. Many have left in protest of being relegated to lower stars and never find their way up again. Fortunately, I like this place very much and the star rating didn't really affect me so much. But those who have got more than 20,000 points to their names are still lagging far behind. The admin need to address this urgently as the seniors have been the pillars that built the strong foundation of what mylot is today.

Remaining stagnant at a lower rank for no fault of ours is really very depressing indeed. I think this may be due to some kind of technical problem. Well let us hope something will be done in this regard.

Hi Meapas, once again you are on a helping spree! I appreciate your concern. Yes, sometimes, the rating system goes wrong because not many use the rating option. And when someone rates negatively and for some other reasons it might come down. It had happened to me. Believe me, it is very difficult to increase the rating if it goes down. And as far as helping those who are having low rating is to rate them positively whenever they contribute constructively. And if they also concentrate on quality discussions then it might happen. Other than that I don't know how one can increase the rating. Happy Mylotting!

There might be some technical problem in the rating system. We can only try our best to the best of our knowledge and hope for the best.

You could probably give positive rating to the discussions and responses on how good they write their response. Some people dont give good responses and sometimes they may be off subject. I love all the different conversations on here.

I also wonder what else we can do other than rating in discussions and responses. May be it also depends on how much quality discussions or quality responses one member posts. I think you can ask Alice about that. Does not matter whatever it is we should do whatever we can. That means keep rating good discussions and responses.

Maximum is 10. I have seen people with 2/3 years of participation and with quite a big number of postings has still not reached 10. I really feel sorry for them and I would like to know the reason for this. They have been giving all very valuable inputs. Most of the people are giving positive ratings and still nothing changes.

I think what it amounts to is not enough people are rating others positive. when I first got my star I was at a very low rating, and it is only because other users rated me positive, that I am where I am at today. I didn't think I was going to get there at first as I seemed to stay at my low rating for a very long time, but all of a sudden, it just started jumping up and I am happy where it it is at that is for sure. I dont' think others realize that when they rate others negative, they are hurting themselves as well as hurting others. I do give negatives for referral links and being rude. I do report some from time to time as well. I also don't think that others are aware that our ratings do affect our earnings, so I like to help others as much as I can to bring their ratings up. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.
