Obama addresses airline security in low-key fashion

...are you surprised? I'm not! Once again Ibn Barack Hussein Obama protects his Islamic brothers but jeopardizes the people of the US of A! KAILUA, HAWAII -- President Obama has performed a difficult but familiar balancing act over the past few days: ordering new security measures in the wake of an attempted airliner attack without excessively alarming the public -- or triggering an outcry from civil liberties advocates. After the attempted terrorist act, Obama sought answers to questions about the suspect and asked for new security steps at airports, White House officials said. But he did not ask to raise the nation's threat level -- and, in fact, left the decision entirely to Napolitano, senior officials said. Nor did he rush to address the public on camera, though he is likely to do so in the next few days, an official said. The middle road is not without peril, as the president and his advisers have discovered. Throughout his first year in office, Obama disappointed liberals in his party with a series of policies -- from his failure to close the Guantanamo Bay military facility to his retention of the Bush policies of indefinite detention of prisoners and military commissions. But with other moves, such as trying the accused Sept. 11 plotters in federal court and opening a domestic detainee facility in Illinois, Obama has made good on civil-liberties-related campaign pledges -- provoking conservative ire. That was the case on Sunday, when Michigan's Peter Hoekstra, the ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, said that the Obama administration should be held accountable for the near-catastrophe aboard Northwest Airlines Flight 253. Hoekstra said that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's presence on the flight was part of a pattern of administration neglect on preparedness questions, stemming from a failure to recognize essential dangers. "The threat to the United States is real. I think this administration has downplayed it," he said on Fox News http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/12/27/AR2009122702070.html?wpisrc=nl_politics:

Three more years of this egotistical, narcissistic wimp makes me sick at the thought of what will be left of our country.

He won't rush to address the public for this. But let unemployment (faslely) rise 0.01% due to more government openings and he'll hijack every channel on the cable box to deliver another primetime speech. Personally, I don't think it's a big deal that he didn't raise the threat or immediately clue Americans in to what had happened (my personal belief is that Americans will panic more NOT knowing!). But this seems to be another example of Obama going out of his way to come across as likeable and level-headed (when we know he's anything but... case in point the Gates situation) instead of as America's commander in chief. But Obama and his massive ego aside, I hope beyond hope that they ALL put away this idea of uber-political correctness and do whatever's necessary to keep Americans safe.

Honestly, I don't feel threatened by cherry bombs. In the unlikely event that the guy is actually an operative of Al Queda, if all they can do is throw their retarded cousins with a pocket full of fireworks at us, then I don't see much need to make a fuss about it. The guy hurt himself more than anyone on the plane. Worst...terrorist... ever. They are taking measures of extra precaution and they are trying to prevent it again. I don't really see the need for a fuss. It's not like he's trying to keep it classified.

Latrivia you may not feel threatened by a "cherry bomb" something which to you is just a firework could cause structural damage to a pressurized aircraft which may not explode now but very easily could explode at a later date.

Obviously now Obama does not (thank heavens!) find is to be just a mere "cherry bomb". “It’s essential that we diagnose the problems quickly and deal with them immediately,” Obama told reporters in Hawaii, where he is vacationing with his family. “A systemic failure has occurred, and I consider that totally unacceptable.” “It’s essential that we diagnose the problems quickly and deal with them immediately,” Obama told reporters in Hawaii, where he is vacationing with his family. “A systemic failure has occurred, and I consider that totally unacceptable.” http://www.businessweek.com/news/2009-12-29/obama-cites-systemic-failures-in-airline-incident-update3-.html

I think Obama did the right thing. Why should he give these people any recognition at all? The intent of these attacks is to create media attention. This fear mongering by the media and the opposition is totally uncalled for. The real issue here is not about Obama but about terrorists and security measures in the States. Perhaps someone was caught sleeping behind the wheel and this is a good wake up call but to blatently point the finger at Obama is stupid and silly. Come on people wake up the real enemies are the terrorists not your own Government.

It is not wrong to call Obama stupid and silly. After all,it was okay to do that to Bush, wasn't it? Wasn't it? Wasn't it? Calling Bush an idiot? Calling Bush a dumbazz? Wasn't it? When are you going to wake up?

Difference is Bush was stupid and and most likely would have seized the opportunity to use this as another excuse for a new war so all his buddies on the hill could gain more profits in arms manufacturing. Once again here we are arguing and discussing things off the topic...which really was about how Obama should have created some kind of big uproar over this latest attack and giving the terrorists more media attention. The fact of the matter is the people in security were obviously caught with their pants down and let this terrorist through the system....how this is supposed to be Obamas problem still escapes me. He is the President and has people that are supposed to be looking after this, if they are not doing their job then yea I would assume he will get rid of them. I can see the opposition has done their job well...created fear and havoc over something that was luckily averted and hopefully something will be learned from it.
