Are You Lonely Throughout The Holidays?

I know it's sad but lots of us are lonely when the holidays arrive. Christmas is special and I try not to get those blues. It's unavoidable. However, family makes it bearable and cooking for nine people was a joy. But everyone is so happily married in my family (well, at least in my immediate fam), which makes it hard at times for this divorced momma. Were you lonely this Christmas and how did you (or how would you advice us) overcome it?

Hi gtargirl, it seems that there are two effective ways to get rid of loneliness during holidays according to my opinions. Before I get married, I was always alone during holidays, so I addicted computer games. Sometimes I played computer game all day and all night, that would keep me from real society, there were fictional game role and me to fight against or together. It's time consuming and a good way to overcome loneliness. When I got annoy with computer games, I tried to find friends from internet who had same situation with me. A lot of single person assembled together to have holidays would make you have a good time in holidays, and furthermore there were a plant of opportunities to meet lonely single persons and had chances to be together.

Ah, very interesting. I'm not really one to play any games, online or off, but I can see where it could take your mind off being lonely. Of course, I had a lot of cooking, cleaning and decorating to do so I didn't have much time for anything else. Anyhow, have a happy new year Steven.

Yeah, I was very lonely for the holiday. It's not because I am single though (although I am). I am nursing my son back to health and miss him terribly. Since it has been a long time since his wreck it seemed like we were forgotten for the holidays. That made for a very lonely day!

But what a wonderful mom you are. I hope your son will get better soon. All the blessings you deserve will come back to you one day. I pray that day is soon, my friend.

You sound so sad. Maybe if his family came to your house you wouldn't feel so lonely. It's just a thought.

I've had lonely holidays for the past couples years. :/ I grew up in SoCal, and I had a lot of family there. We used to go to my god-grandmother's house every Thanksgiving and Christmas to have a big dinner with a bunch of extended family. In 2004, my immediate family and I moved out of state, and all the holidays since then have been really quiet and modest. It just doesn;t really feel like the Holidays anymore. w

Did you decorate your home? Sometimes that helps. I put up strings of Christmas lights around the kitchen island. The counter looked so festive. Or perhaps you guys will have to start new traditions. It's hard, but it's a thought.

I would not say I was lonely over the holidays I was more sad for some reason. My boyfriend is locked up and stressed out. So that added to my sadness as well. I had to get over that bad feeling some how. I just started thinking of ways to get it gone. so I started to think of my New year changes. it helped for the most part. I am still doing fine for the most part.

I am very sorry to hear that. I have been in your shoes before and know what that feels like. It is very sad for people to have to go through that when everyone else seems to be so happy. It was hard to get through and the only way I ever overcame it, was to find someone else to spend my life and holidays with.

Actually I'm not really lonely at the holidays...Hubby and I spend it together and most times I talk to my Mom and Dad on the phone and my niece and nephew stop by. It's really rather nice. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

I was with my family, the one I spend all my time with. Sorry that you are alone but its okay to be alone, it doesn't make you any less deserving of people around you at all. You should focus on the people who make you happy and enjoy that time with them. I have other family but I would rather be with the ones who love me.

Hello my friend gtargirl Ji, So long I am wit my hubby, I never felt such a agony. After marrying more than 40 yrs back,we have been together at all occasions, except whenmy hubby went for his professional duty. I am not able to simulate that condition, when he would not be with me, that only be lonliness. But as the time passes and hairs turn grey, we get matured not to show agoy and live like others. On such occasions, I will fully devote myself to seve poor people inmy locality. May God bless You and have a great time.

Yeah, that's never fun. I'm thinking everyone who is stressed out should help lift up the other, encourage the other. I know it's hard though. Hope you enjoy the rest of these holiday.

I wan't really lonely this year. I didn't have a boyfriend, but I did have my family. My family is all I want on the holidays. I would rather not have a boyfriend because I don't have the money to spend on him.

I was lonely last Christmas but I am still thankful that Christmas passed and I still have my family with me. When I was a child there is a spirit of christmas with me because of toys and moneys I received and I have the chance to play with my cousins, but now that I am old, there is no spirit of Christmas in me. I am little excited but when the christmas already happening, I am sad inside. I no longer feel the Spirit of Christmas. I know that Christmas is for Jesus, we are just celebrating his birth, but after all the hardship I have been through I am thankful but not totally happy. And also I am just at home, after christmas I don't have much things to do, my life is boring.

Hi gtar...as we grow further into our adult years, I think the lonliness for people who've passed on, or lonliness for other reasons is a bit unavoidable. I do think most of us, like you, make the effort to keep it under control, though, by focusing on the present activities and loved ones still in our life. So for me, the holidays are always bitter-sweet. Karen
