Hi jugsjugs I am a sucker for the sales and we will grab whatever we can for a bargain. I love that they have all the Christmas stock at less then half price.

Hope you had a good Christmas. That is the problem with the sales, not many have much money left to take advantage of them after Christmas. I think I will be doing more window shopping then buying in the new year.

That is a good way of thinking and a good start to the new year. I agree with you it is better to spread the cost of Christmas over the year rather than paying out a large chunk of money in one go

I am going to try everything this year to make a few more pounds to spend as that way there will be less to pay out next christmas.I do0 hate parting with a job lot of money all in one go.

Tha is a very good idea .We all know that as hard as this year was next year will even be harder and prices will probably be higher so if there was any way to offset these costs then we all should make an attempt .I am not a gift buyer or reciever but I am for any solution that will save me money in these financially rough times

doesnt it make you mad though when you buy something early thinking that it will save you money and then months later you see it half the price. Which makes me think it might be better next year to get a little tin and put the money in that instead of buying the gift. Happy New Year though to all. x

I think there are always sales on through out the year in the shops as well as there are a few bargains to be had on the internet as well.I think that if i spend little and often then i will have enought things for people at christmas rather than having to find alot of money all in one go when christmas gets here.

my shopping's actually been pretty easy lately. a lot of people had been asking for gift cards.doesn't seem like much of a gift, but they seem to be astoundingly happy with it..

Yes, I just got home from shopping. I bought red and green velcro "tape" for hanging next year's outdoor ornaments. Got it half price, so I bought 4. LOL!

I say that I am every year but I never am and I am sure that this year is going to be no different....I would love to try and start picking up things for next year the day after Christmas but I never do and then I realize in October that I have nothing and rush out to get some presents. I think I am really going to try a bit harder this year though because we have a bigger place with a basement so I think I could get away with hiding the gifts better...

I tend to hide things in my mothers loft as that way they are out of sight out of reach as well.I am going to try to stick at getting a few bits every other week even if i have to go with out as that way there will be less to worry about next year.

this is really a good idea friend. i don't celebrate christmas. but i used to save my money to buy gifts for my friends birthday.some times we used to go to many shops in search of right gift.but we wont get the gift what we wish to buy.some times when we just go around the shop we will see some gifts which we like it very much but we don't have money in hand to buy.so what i used to do is? when i really like a gift very much i will request that seller to keep it aside and the next day i will buy that gift wrap it ready for my friend and i will present it on his\her birthday . have a nice day friend :)

That sounds like a great idea to have the store put it away until you can go in and pay for the gift.I do not think that there are alot of stores like that where i live.I shall try to get a few gifts every other week as then if it is someones birthday i will also have a gift for them as well.

I got some gift cards to a store I almost never go to, so I'm going to go buy some gifts for next year with them. Mind you, I will then do things to them to make them more than just buying them, I stitch on sweatshirts and stuff to make them more special...

I do this every year, I try to save enough money to go and buy wrapping paper for 1/4 of what it originally sells for (actually I have plenty for a few more years and should stop buying the paper) but I love going in the stores after Christmas and buying things for next year, wrapping paper for a quarter, ornaments for 50 cents, lights for two dollars..... As far as the gifts go, I try to go and spend a little bit at a time throughout the year, if I see something that I think someone would like I go ahead and get it and put it away for the next year (on occasion I grab something out for a birthday gift) Here's a group I joined long ago, it helps to get things done throughout the year in order to have a great Christmas the next year, I always forget to check my email where I have it sent so it doesn't really do me any good but maybe it'll work for you..... http://www.christmasorganizing.com/

That's what I do, twenty dollars here or there, seeing something that I think someone would like...I already have a chutes and ladder game for next year, not sure which of the kids I'll give it to yet, was thinking of keeping it here to play when the grandkids are here but then I might keep an eye out and see who does or doesn't have it at home.....I can estimate what the clothes sizes will be and what age group of toys the kids will be into so it's easy for the little ones....the older kids are harder to buy for, seems they constantly change their minds of what they do and don't like.

I always get everyone elses gifts before i buy for my children and my husband as they always tend to change their minds what they want and that gets me confused then as well.I think as long as i have got everyone elses first then there are alot less things to worry about.

Hi JJ, This year the main thing I want to do is catch the sales! Normally every year I mean to but always end up going when the sales are finished..but this year there are things I need and want to get so going to the sales will hopefully help me get them..plus as the winter is so cold and freezing some warm clothes wouldn't go amiss either...as for xmmas pressies etc for next year am not sure normally leave that till nearer the end of the year anyway... LoLo

I am going to try to get a few bits every other week as that way i will not miss the money as much like i did this time as i left everything to the last minuite which was a struggle as well as it was hard to get all the money i needed for the things that i had to buy.

Hi jj, Am not sure if you have this in the USA but I have started to save with a company called Park Savings..they are good and legite as have saved with them before but they do give vouchers called Love To Shop....so when I get them at the end of the year it will be easier for me to get things as these vouchers are like money and most shops take them except for food shops so even if they were given as apresent the person can get what they want wherever the other good thing about them is they are valid for a year...LoLo

I am in the UK and i do run a hamper book as well and i do have a few customers this year as they also found it hard to have as much money as they needed this year for their gifts.I think it is better like you say paying a little a month rather than one big amount nearer christmas.

Buying Gifts for next year will definitely free up some money at the end of next year, but what about space? lol, I like the idea of doing that but if it's not space I am worried about it is the fact that I may not be able to keep the gift all year long without letting the person open it! lol!

i think it doesnt matter, only if the gifts are what u like or want, and the quality is good. then isnt it a perfect thing? low price, while good quality. but in fact, maybe such chances are very limited.

With there being sales all year round that gives me alot of chances to get alot of bargain gifts as well as when christmas comes around again i will have less money to find for all of the presents so that will also save me time as well as money. This year i done everything at the last minuite and i hated every minuite of it.

oh yes I love saving more then the next perosn, and will always look for the sales and in fact it makes me so mad when I have not saved money to buy stuff after the holidays. Here the stores always cut the prices down to 780% off after the holidays. Its insane how the prices drop.

I might buy things because of the discounts but I wont buy them if the only reason Im buying them is because of the discounts and not anything else. If it's an item that Im going to purchase anyway even without the Sale then Id of course pick the discounted item rather than the regularly priced one. But buying gifts a year early, well, I dont really do that. For one, I know there's still going to be another sale around the same time next year. Two, that would give me one whole year to save up for next year's holidays. Three, the person that Im intending to give the gift to might change their likes, dislikes and preferences. So to be safe, Ill just take little mental notes of it throughout the year and when its close to the holiday in question, then that's when Ill buy the gifts. Ill try to avoid the holiday rush cause that can be too stressful. Its always good to plan ahead. I think if you're going to buy gifts for next year this early, Im sure you're going to get the kinds that doesnt go out of fashion or out of one's interest.

Yes, I am going to do the same. I think getting things when they are on sale makes alot of sense. My girlfriend did this one year and got scads of stuff, alot more than she would have been able to at regular prices. The trick is where to hide them until the holiday. My grandmother always used to tell us a story about just that.

I try to buy things all year so Christmas is not such a hassle for me..... If I did not do that I could not afford good enough gifts for people.... Actually this year I got kind'of lucky.... Both of my sisters were complaining about not having a wall calendar so I got my freebie calendars in and that is what I gave them as gifts.
@jugsjugs (12967)

I think it is great if you can get all the gifts for people before christmas as that way you can sit back and relax. This year was a bit of a rush as well as a bit of a strain on my bank as i had got nothing until it was nearly christmas then all i was doing was rushing around trying to get everything.

I have not gotten thru this Christmas yet. I don't want to think about next year! You will probably be ready before anyone else. I find if you start shopping to early, you forget what you bought or end up spending more as you always see something at the last minute that you just can't pass up. At least I do. A friend of mine bought a few presents early and she forgot about them and forgot where she had put them.

It sounds like you will have a good head start on the holidays next year. I don't have enough room to store presents for a year, let alone forget where they are. If I had more room maybe I would buy some stuff for next year also. This is the best time, everything is on sale.
