Another Holiday So Soon...

Yesterday I went to Dollar General and I was stunned. Here it is 3 days after Christmas and they already had Valentine’s stuff everywhere. They had one aisle of marked down Christmas stuff and about 3 aisles of Valentine’s stuff. I couldn’t believe that they couldn’t even wait till after the first of the year to start shoving that stuff out there. It seems like we get through one holiday and we’re racing for the next one.
Are your local stores already displaying Valentine’s stuff? Do you think they should have a cooling off period between holidays? Does it aggravate you to just get through one holiday only to have the next one thrown at you?

Don't you love how they just blew past New Year's, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and Presidents' Day(s) and went right to the next day that people spend money? Any good chocolates on sale?

Christmas chocolates are 40-50% off here, while they last. A good deal I'd take advantage of if I didn't get so much chocolate as gifts.

Hello my friend Twoey. We have just had Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Yesterday was a Bank Holiday in my home country. Soon it will be New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Then in mid February it shall be Valentine's Day. Yes, one holiday passes and then it isn't long until the next holiday. Christmas is an expensive time. Birthdays are on different months of the year so no time is especially pricey. Shops just wish to sell. It will be them selling Valentines cards really soon I imagine. They have already started that where you live so that was quick.

Twoey I think that is life, I just go with the flow.
I do think that may be one reason that so many folks are so down about holidays anymore though, they are just too danged commercial. Why I can still remember when stores were not allowed to be open on Sunday because it interfered with folks going to worship.

L.O.L. I know how you feel. Stores always do that and yes it does aggravate me I think it is ridiculous! Can we not get a break? I really think they should have a cooling off period between Holidays for real! I totally agree!

It is so annoying. All the stores want is for you to spend a ton of money on stuff you don't really need or even want. I just want to go into the store and purchase the things I need without being teased and tempted to buy things I don't want.

I was at wal mart and kmart on Christmas eve and the valentines day things were out....I think it's too soon to start worrying about valentines day, I'm not even ready for new years eve yet!! It's just crazy how the holidays are being shoved down our throats before they're even here yet!! (I have to go get all of my wrapping paper & decorations on sale for next Christmas before I even think about valentines & st patricks day!!)

I saw all the valentine's stuff at BigLots when I went to get some candy to take my auto mechanic. But some of the "Christmas" candy was marked down so I bought that instead--less cost for me and more candy for the guys who repair my car. Everybody wins.

That does not surprise me at all, my local store cleared all it's Christmas stock out about a week before Christmas but as of yet they have not put any valentines things out thank goodness! It does aggravate me when they do that its not fun, it just depresses me to think that I have to spend even more money out!

I know that the stores where I live at have items on the shelves before that month rolls in. I have not been to the store to see this yet, so I would not know. I think that they should have a cooling off period. After all, Christmas was just here and people are trying to gain back what they have already spent for the Christmas holidays. I would like to be given time to earn some money before I spend it again. When I go to the stores after spending up all of my money on Christmas, I get annoyed. I would like to buy gifts but just only when I have the time to have enough of money. I know that others feel the same way too. The stores should not rush the customers to shop so early. They should put some space between now and February. We have a while to get to this month anyway. We have not gotten out of 2009 yet to be talking about putting up Valentine's Day products. I wonder if the prices are any cheaper now before Valentine's Day.

I think it's outrageous that the stores start putting Christmas stuff out in September! Geez, we haven't even gotten close to Halloween and we see Christmas stuff.
I know what you're talking about, though. Valentine's Day stuff is already on the shelves. It's a marketing strategy. I guess they don't want you to get too lazy once your wallet is open. They just want to get as much of your money as they can before you have time to think about how much you don't have anymore.
I'm with you. It does aggravate me. It isn't even January yet and Valentine's Day is in the middle of February. Maybe the stores are hoping we'll spend more money before the credit card bills start coming in from Christmas shopping.
From a human standpoint, it's very wrong. Of course, they only care about profits, not people. I just ignore whatever holiday stuff they put out until I'm ready to start looking.

Hi twoey68,
That is the reason I haven't been out and about yet, the weather is awful so I am staying indoors, anyway I haven't any money to spend after buying Christmas Present till next pay check, it is very annoying for stores to start pushing these stuff, I suppose they have to make money but its too soon.

That is one of my pet peeves!! I hate the way commerce rushes the holidays, it cheapens them somehow. I haven't been out to the stores here because of the weather and so much work to do but I'm sure they already have all the Valentine stuff out, shoving aside Christmas like a bag of rubbish. Nothing is holy or has any intrinsic value to retailers--it's all about the dollar!

I used to work for a dollar general. I don't remember how close things were put out as I was a cashier and stocked only around the register mostly. In any case, I do remember cleaning out the back storeroom that we had a lot, I mean A LOT of christmas stuff that hadn't been put out, and had probably been there for years.

I know exactly how you feel ,they don't give anyone a chance to turn round before they start on you again. It will be easter eggs soon you realise that. The only way we can stop it is to stop buying everything they want us to.Boycott those shop displays and make a stand.

I jsut went to the family dolar yesterday. the new years weekend and they have Valitines allready. I do think that there should be a cooling off peroid between hoidays. but I think the stores do that becase they want to get ready for the next hioday that commes along. I am sure that there is some coustomers that indend want to get ready for the next hoiday.

I can one up you just a little bit on this one. This evening my husband and children and myself went to the grocery store to pick up a few things that we needed. I was shocked to see that they already have Cadbury Cream Eggs and Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs out already. Now, I'm not exactly sure what day Easter is this year, but I can flat out guarantee that Easter is not for more than two more months.
I think the commericalism of holidays has gone way too far in recent years.
