Okay so christmas morning i got the best gift I could ever of hope for at the moment. My fiance gave me a beautiful 14k white gold princess cut diamond ring. It was a ring I had pointed out to him months ago and he spent quite more then i wanted him to spend on me. Well he had given me a ring a few years ago so when i lost it down a drain I bawled my eyes out and thought i would never have another ring. When he gave me this ring though my first thoughts were ring insurance. Having the ring insured protects from theft, lost rings , or damaged rings. Alot of people say to add it on to your homeowners insurance. WE dont have homeowners insurance and may not anytime soon considering we are just renting. I found an insurance company online highly recommended called jewelers mutual. The yearly quote for my ring was under fifty so not bad. I came on here in hopes of getting some other womens opinions on ring insurance. Like who your ring is insured through, how much you pay, and if anyone has used jewelers mutual. Its the only one i have found that will insure the ring without homeowners insurance required and i want to make sure my ring gets the best. I will be heartbroken is something happens to it down the road and i cant do anything about it.

I'm not sure about jewelry mutual because I have never insured jewelry without having it on a policy with other things. However, after reading your post, I just wanted to mention that you can get renter's insurance from any of the big insurance companies that have homeowner's insurance. I tend to prepare for the worst, so even though we rented for years before we bought our house, we always had renter's insurance. I would recommend it because you never know what might happen. True, you wouldn't have to worry about rebuilding your rental unit, but without insurance, you wouldn't be getting any compensation for all of your personal belongings in the case of a fire or something. Plus, if you are paying for auto insurance, you can generally get a discount when you go through the same company for auto and renter's insurance. With renter's and homeowner's insurance, generally if jewelry is worth under $5000, it is included in the regular rate. If it is worth over that, you have to pay a little more to insure your individual pieces of jewelry, but I've found that you can get a great deal if you have other insurance through the company. Sorry if this is more info that you wanted, but I just thought it might help. Good luck and congratulations on the awesome gift!

Can i get renters insurance if the homeowner has the house already insured?

Hi, yes you can still get renter's insurance just for your belongings - that's what we've always done before. We've gotten renter's insurance when we've been in apartment buildings owned by a company and in houses owned by individual people. In all cases, the buildings and houses themselves have already been insured. When we would get our renter's insurance, we would typically receive a sheet from the insurance company that we could use to total up the approximate worth of our things (divided up into categories like electronics, furniture, etc.). You can check with individual companies, but we've had Nationwide, Allstate, and State Farm in the past and they all worked the same way. If for some reason the owner of your home has insurance that also covers the items inside the home, you could always ask them about specifically what is covered because you may be able to add your ring on to their existing policy.

hi jessi as you are renters it would not hurt to get renters'insurance and put the ring in under the insurance for
'whatever it cost. that way in case something did happen the
ring and all your belongings would be insured in case of
fire, flood or earthquake.

Hi first congratulations to you and your fiance.
Have you thought of getting in touch with the people that you rent your home from and asking them if it would be covered on that insurance cover? You might find them willing to add it on. x
