My baby is having a cradle cap problem. For those wondering what cradle cap is, Cradle Cap (infantile or neonatal seborrhoeic dermatitis, also known as crusta lactea, milk crust, honeycomb disease) is a yellowish, patchy, greasy, scaly and crusty skin rash that occurs on the scalp of recently born babies. It is usually not itchy, and does not bother the baby. Cradle cap most commonly begins sometime in the first 3 months. Similar symptoms in older children are more likely to be dandruff than cradle cap. The rash is often prominent around the ear, the eyebrows or the eyelids. It may appear in other locations as well, where it is called seborrhoeic dermatitis rather than cradle cap. Some countries use the term pityriasis capitis for cradle cap. It is extremely common, with about half of all babies affected. Most of them have a mild version of the disorder. I manage to get rid the cradle cap on the head using buds products but I cannot get rid the one on his eyebrows. Can you recommend any products or remedies for it?

When it comes to babies you have to be extra carefull as if I were at your place I would have only listened to my doctor and no one else. Suppose you hear someone giving you any remedy but u know we vary from person to person. It could have good effect on them but might not be the same with your baby. So better consult a good doctor.

Maybe I can help you. I have had 7 kiddos and have used lots of things for cradle cap. I think though that the best I have ever used is baby oil. I would just put a tiny bit on the patches and let it sit for a few minutes. Than with a soft brush, comb most of it out. I have never had a baby that kept it long when I would do this. And as long as you brush easy, it actually feels good to the child. Even on the eyebrows it seems to be effective. Just use a little spot of oil and be very careful brushing, brush away from the eyes. Hopefully that will help a little.

hello dear, not sure if your are willing to try this.. i wasnt really sure it would work, the first time my mom-in-law suggested it to me.. but one of my children had a pretty 'stubborn' cradle cap once.. so i tried it - and it did work... Try 'Santan' (coconut milk).. i wet the 'problem area' with 'santan' and left it on for a while.. it worked... It was a bit messy and smelly, but it worked... not sure if you want to try it.. good luck, anyways..

My kids had cradle cap. My daughter twice and my son once. Both cases were gone within about 2 days. I never used baby oil as the other commentors suggested. I just used a comb or my fingers and pick it out of their hair after their bath. It was sooo disgusting. The first time my mother tooth a soft toothbrush and got it off my daughters scalp tht way. I see so many kids who have it for months at a time. Some parents are afraid to touch the soft spot to get it off there. I hated touching their soft spot to but I was just very careful about it. I made sure to use baby shampoo on my children every night. They always got baths. If you bathe them every night I think they are way less likely for that waxy build up to continue on their heads.

Baby oil is all we ever used as well. If you put a small amount through baby's hair after the bath you can keep cradle cap from happening to begin with. Most of the time the old tried and true remedies are still the best ones to use, and alot more inexpensive than the new and so called improved products they keep putting on the market.
