What solid food do you give to your baby below 1 year old?

Mashed pumpkin and sweet potato - This is the solid food I give to my 10 month old son.

I started to introduced solid food to my baby when he was 6 months old. I only started with those infant cereal products from Nestle, until he was 9 months old, I started to give him mashed pumpkin and sweet potato. Sometimes I give him mashed papaya or banana. I don't know what else I can give to my son, though some of my friends already introduced porridge, meat and also other food that we eat, they just give it to the baby after 4 months old. I am afraid this will harm the baby's digestion system. As my baby is already 10 months old now, I don't know if it's enough nutrition for him if only drinking breast milk, infant cereal and also the pumpkin and sweet potato. What solid food do you give your baby? How many times of solid food a day do you give to your baby? I give my baby 2-3 times solid food a day.

Mashed potatoes was what we started our young ones on! Of course after they start getting teeth, you can start mixing soft meats, and cooked vegetables, because their digestive systems should be developed by then!

Hi there, thanks for your response. My son already has his first two teeth when he was 5 months old, and now he has four teeth. But I am still not sure if he can bite and swallow the food, especially vegetables.

After the age of 6 months you can give your baby anything but err on the side of caution if there is a family history of allergies. The only thing I will say is dont give your baby honey until they are 12-18 months (sone experts say 12 months some say 18). This is due to the spores that bees carry the babies stomach cannot kill it and can cause a serious illness. My oldest is 18 months and she has breakfast, lunch and dinner, she also has 2 fruit snacks. My youngest is 4.5 months and just has 3 baby rice/cereals per day.

Most fruits - mashed up, soft mashed or steamed veggies, mashed potatoes, rice, noodles, diced cooked chicken, crumbled hamburger, pretty much almost anything that you eat is fine for a baby at 10 months. Just be aware of choking hazards and make sure the pieces are small and that you watch so he doesn't stuff his mouth full. The only things I'd avoid due to age is peanut butter or any nuts, honey, and some people have said seafood. If there are no egg or dairy allergies, scrambled eggs or chopped hard boiled egg is good, cheese - shredded or cubed, yogurt, etc. When my daughter was that age, I'd give her some baby cereal, applesauce, or a little of whatever I was having - or maybe some cheerios - when they are that little, they only need maybe an ice cube sized amount of solids, then she'd nurse. She probably ate solids for either breakfast and dinner, or maybe lunch and dinner, but sometimes she'd have a snack too. At 10 months she was still nursing maybe 4-6 times a day.

Hi, kaka135. My baby is also 10 months old now. And i am the same like you, i have not introduced him any porridge or meat as my mom told me because others have already done it earlier. Since my baby was 6 months old, i introduced him the organic rice cereal. For luck, my baby loves eating rice cereal until now. Then i also introduced him mashed banana and sweet potato. Recently, i introduced him the mashed pumpkin. I prepared for him two -three full spoon and he ate all. I am going to make him again but i have no more pumpkin in the fridge, i have to buy it again. Therefore today i introduced him carrot....but...he did not want to eat all, even though it's only one full spoon. Sometimes, it's difficult to introduce the baby new solid food. I have read the article that sometimes we need to try at least 10 times before the baby accept the new food. I have to be patient then... Kaka, actually there are many solid foods that you can introduce to your baby according to his age. There is a website about this, you can have a look at it http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

Hello my friend kaka135 Ji, It all depends on his teeth, if teeth have come up at right places and he can chew, we will give even chapati/bread, but pure milk must be given at laest 4 time/daily. You can mesh fruits and give. You can also give rice with Dal etc. What I think, a child once he is ready to digest should be increased slowly and slowly. Please log on babycentre.com for more details on any topic for parenting. May God bless You and have a great time.

We gave her mashed lentils, pureed squash, apples and also sweet potato. We also gave her bananas but she strangely she didn't like it. We gave her mashed zuccini, pureed spinach and broccoli. Vegetables were either mashed or pureed. We also gave her fish. We didn't give her any meat until a year old. Now she's three years old and eats vegetables. She also likes fish and chicken. In fact she eats anything! :-) She also knows that she can't ask for anything else except what's on the table. She eats meals with us now 3 times a day, and still has room for 3 9oz bottles too.

Around 4 to 6 months old, I fed my baby infant Banana Yogurt, Green Beans, Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, Rice Cereal, Oatmeal Cereal, Peaches, Pears, Strawberry Banana fruit. I gave my baby solid foods about three times a day. No more than four though. A child should not eat meat until they are 1 year old. They can have the third stage when they are in their 8th or 9th month. I usually will give my child the third staged jar food when they have enough teeth to chew the food up.

I think just the fruit. You need to remember that the baby is just that and he may not be able to digest meat and such. He can't chew it and that is where the digestion starts. See how he takes to it too. Lots of water to help it get through his colon and so forth. He is just starting out so he need all the help he can get.

As long as the food is mashed down ,no stringy meat,I take it your baby has teeth solids will help your babies teeth come through quicker,no salt or sugar. It sounds as though your baby is getting a very nutricious diet. You are right to wait before you gave your baby mashed food and waited well after four months. You can do terrible damage to your babies digestion if they are given solids to early. If your worried try vitamin drops. It all depends on if your baby is content or not.It your baby is content and lively you are doing what suits him. They will soon let you know if they are hungry.I would suggest a weetabix in the morning,He should be on cows milk as well ,water it down when he starts then make it 100 percent in a couple of weeks.I personally gave my babies three solid meals a day.A drop of cooled boiled water to quench his thirst. If your baby gets conspitated or has a tummy go back to what you did before. It is trial and error. To me it sounds like you are doing really well.

I started both of my children with the infant cereal and then I moved on to the jarred vegetables and then the jarred fruits. Then finally I moved them on to the jarred meals. Basically, with my children they were mostly on solid foods by the time they were a year old. For the most part they were eating everything that we were eating by the time they were a year old with just a few exceptions. I think if your child is acting like they are satisfied, I don't think that you should force them to eat more solid foods than they desire.

Any solid food can be mashed - so a baby can get it. regular mash potatos is what we started with when the kids where babies. Ice cream was a nice treat as a snack. carrots was another. We did start with infant cereal and once the babies got their first couple of teeth we let them have cherios. I would say away from chocolate - lol Peas are good to mash. Enjoy your little one. Solid food 2-3 times a day sounds about right to me.
